If you were in one of the best relationships you have had thus far but there is some compettiion for affection in bed. What i mean by compettion is there is a pet that your partner always sleeps with. Would you demand rhat they kick the pet out of the bed? What if you already have given a request and your partner refuses to kick their best friend from the bed? Please give me some examples, or opinions on the subject.

I was in a relationship and she had a cat and a dog. The cat slept with us but not the dog. The cat was useless it couldn't catch a mouse because it was de-clawed. It was also a long hair breed that shed hair all over the place. The cat was also a biter probably due to being de-clawed.
The dog was spoiled rotten. Whenever we left the house the dog would tear apart the garbage and spread it all over the kitchen.
There's no way I will ever agree to sleep with a dog or a cat at this point.

In my opinion she must have been a terrible person to de-claw the cat.

One of my friends - (happily married) rescues animals - has 7 dogs now - and he told me they all sleep in the bed with him. So I asked, where does your wife sleep?

He said; "she sleeps in her own bed, in another room, because I snore".

comfort sure, I thought, keep telling yourself that....

Although it must work for them, they appear to have a very loving and happy marriage.

mitsos: In my opinion she must have been a terrible person to de-claw the cat.
She inherited the cat from her mother who had the cat de-clawed because she obviously valued her couch higher than the cats ability to defend itself not to mention the psycological damage she would do to the cat. I've never seen a de-clawed cat which acted normal. They often become biters because that's all they can do when assaulted whether by another cat or a well meaning person.
She also inherited the dog from a couple she'd been babysitting for who used to let the dog out at night to find food to eat. The dog would rummage other peoples garbage in it's search for food. They thought it was very clever to have a dog which they wouldn't have to spend any money on to feed.

When my gf decided to leave because she couldn't stand the state of Ohio and go back to NJ, she took the dog but left the cat. Needless to say the cat never slept with me again.

That explains a lot, the more i hear of such pet owners the more am of the opinion that someone should pass written exams before getting a pet.thumbs up

I think that there should be some give and take. Some people feel that a pet is a member of the family and treat them that way. I think it would be okay as long as the pet is clean and stays out of the bed when it is time for the grown up stuff. laugh

Pets do in a way form part of a family but they should have their own beds - whether they live indoors or outdoors. The moment you allow pets to invade your personal space its almost impossible to get it back and yes I do believe it can cause problems with your significant other - not everyone likes a third party in their beds.
