Yes, I googled the world on the Wikipedia before using it! I wouldn't think Mid-Western people are as tolerant as New Yorkers. It takes many many years to change a big population as it's in USA compared to us in Scandinavia. We're only 9 million today.

I know! It was kind of shocking to see most mid-west on the list in the middle of the bible belt
SoonerGal: You know, common law marriage is pretty common here in the states, actually just a few years ago, did the courts start recognizing this, especially where children were concerned, so you know what I think, you just as well get that piece of paper because it's going to be a legal battle anyway
here,after 7yrs./common law marriage,u have to go,to court/divorce,any children born,its court time,w/ out 7yrs.for custody,etc.payments.
Hi ABC looking around friends and family in Germany, most people live together for a while and get married when they want to start a family. It is possible to have pre-nubs and if people have some sort of business, it's quite common.
Looking around friends I have here in Ireland, not everyone in rural areas live together before getting married. But it's getting more common. Getting married is a big circus here and getting a rock on your finger, too. I am quite surprised about the amount of people on CS who have kids and are not married, it's not that usual with my circle of friends. Pre-nubs are not recognised.

I know about Mid-West and bible belt; i spent a year in Canada when I was younger and travelled through most of your states. I know they're little bit different in Mid-West.
Can you live together without being married in your country?
i used to do a bit of relationship counselling/marriage counselling and found that unmarried folk seem to stay together longer then the married ones.so,yes living together without being married in my country works out far better in the long run + it's not frowned upon as it once was

Really? KN? I didn't know that? Pre-nups aren't recognised in Ireland? That's mad!

Do you think all people on CS are honest? The Scandinavian countries have chosen their own way. I know we have differences within Europe in the same way as there are differences within USA.

No, they're not unlaoised.
I worked for an organisation in Ireland who are in social partnership with the government, and it is currently a hot topic. I hope to see it change so that it is an option for people who would prefer one.
