Prostate test...is it worth the "invasion"? (27)
SpagoochSt. Catharines, Canada21 Threads 387 PostsIt's nasty, it's embarrasing, it's dowright invasive! What's this "P" something test that OHIP won't cover, is it a critical examination to the prevention of prostate cancer? I'd like to know more about it.
Speaking as a Lab technician.. I don't believe it is fair to charge men for this test, however that being said.. if OHIP will not pay for this test it is still very worth the money you spend on it.
I think we should petition the government to insist that they have this test covered by OHIP!

Well it is health related and if it brings you peace of mind to know your prostates are in good health and that your body is in good health then I would say yes it is worth the invasion.
I just turned 30 and soon I will have to start going for mammograms. I dread it but we have a high breast cancer rate in my family and if it will bring me peace of mind to know I am cancer free and in good health then I will take all precautionary measures to make sure I am in good health. If not for me but for the sake of my children and loved ones at least.

It should be covered...I thought it was. I wonder does our provincial medical ( MCP ) coverage cover it? If OHIP doesn't then ours probably doesn't as well. PAPs are covered...I don't understand why this wouldn't be covered as well.
Coz they have to pay for the SUV's, leather jackets, and trips for the high level bureacrats who really run this province.
well spagooch, they do say that when the examination is done that they can tell if you have problems with your prostate. <u dad has to have it doen on a regular basis because he has had prostate problems and l will tell you it was that exam that has saved him his life, if he had not had it we dont know if he would be here on this earth with us. So if you ask me, l think there a very valuable thing and l think every man should have it done. Yes its not a nice thing to have done but if it helps save your life, why not.
I think the test is important. I read somewhere that they think prostate cancer is diue to a virus...not the flu virus, but some kind of virus..... . If I come across the article again I will let you know.
just as women...forgot the name of that virus...there is even a commercial on tv about it too
If it's going to save your life......i think it's a good thing, as long as your Dr. doesn't have both his hands on your shoulders at the time of the exam..........(omg who said)
