pedalguy59: Yeah, and the body is great too, considering the amount of salt we put on the roads in winter.
I can remember when I brought my car over from Germany how one of the mechanics was taken aback when he saw the underside of my car - not much salt used in Ireland on the road.
I like my car and hope to drive it a couple of years longer, mileage is just getting high.

You can put many mies on them. If the roads are bad, they shake the hell out of the front end causing repair on Ball joints etc. Expensive.

Yes, I had a lot more repairs on the chassis frame and everything to do with that in Ireland than in Germany.
Driving better roads now but probably too late for my car.

pedalguy59: Do they still call it road tax? I thought that was done away with prior to WWII.
...funny that...beginning of this month...we don't have to show a tax disk on our cars now....bit of a swine in a way...remembering when it runs out...they do say....HUH....we will inform you.....when it does.....huh....
So why do the make and model of cars we drive have social status?
Some of the top costing cars, are so specialty type that the person can only drive it in good weather, worries about theft and requires extra and costly efforts to house the thing when not driving it?
pedalguy59: It would be nice to live without them, but that is soley my opinion, shared by few.
I like the independence a car gives me and I couldn't imagine being without one - I need one for my job, too, and to simply have a life and get out and about.
Bikes or public transport are great in cities (Munich or Berlin have a brilliant tram system and you simply don't need a car), but that's not on option everywhere.
