The true love u r talking about is the love I have for my kids, no-one else.
I care that way for most people. I do a lot for them and expect nothing in return. Not because sometimes they can't but just because it's me.

But then one time I was in hospital
I met this lovely friend
She opened my heart to understand
Why I am here and who I am
I am here to make a difference
I see it clear as day

Because she did show me the way
Nothing will come between us
For it is something that we choose
We have understanding
And it’s the main thing that we use
I don’t say that she is mine
For she to me is free
To go and do as she pleases
But hey can’t help if she loves me
We inspire each other on in life

She may not even understand

Think along the lines of Mother Teresa and such people as an example. Their love goes out to every soul. To be in the presence of such people is to feel love emanating from their very being, and is a powerful yet humbling experience.

I do not believe in that type of love. It is spiritual and I am non-religious (totally). I grew up with Christianity and am not interested in any religion.

I knew such a lady. She was a spiritual healer, a family friend. She had the capacity to look deep within one's soul with her love. It was powerful.
She was a beautiful person.

galrads: Boy, there sure is a lot written about this feeling, Love. The bible is all over it, Flower Children gave up on it, I see most married couples unhappy and not in love than happy and in love, and politicians and charities love you for your money etc.

galrads: For me, other-centered is the opposite of self-centered. Self-centered is selfish (everything is me me me me). If I am motivated for and thinking and acting on behalf of someone else I am being other-centered.
Regarding Reciprocation.... for whatever reason, there is a lot of Love out there which is not openly reciprocated. Some refer to this as one sided or Unrequited love.
