galrads: For me, other-centered is the opposite of self-centered. Self-centered is selfish (everything is me me me me). If I am motivated for and thinking and acting on behalf of someone else I am being other-centered.
Regarding Reciprocation.... for whatever reason, there is a lot of Love out there which is not openly reciprocated. Some refer to this as one sided or Unrequited love.

i think with unrequited love, one either has to honestly be able to move it into unconditional love (no expectations) or distance themselves. to stay in a constant state of rejection is unhealthy for anyone.

Yes agape or disinterested love is another way of describing unconditional love. Eros is dynamic and shape shifting, it's an energy and can manifest as projection. Eros can split into polarities, hence love and hate can be present in any relationship.
Unconditional love however is stable, cannot be shifted or changed by circumstance, it's a realisation of our true nature unaffected by the whims or demands of the ego.

jono7: other-centered is about caring about the other person without expectation. it's ok to have wants, but if your wants develop into expectations then it becomes tit for tat. you do this, and i'll do that. you give me this, and i'll give you that. you behave a certain way, and then i'll behave a certain way. and this has very little to do with the love you may have once felt.
ideally, you meet someone, and love in action is reciprocated. you find that person that accepts you for who you are without putting a lot of expectations on you to be whoever they think you should do and be. their actions are in service of the Us, and likewise, you accept and enjoy them and your actions are in service of the Us. love is it's own reward even if that means detaching with love.
i think the trick is in finding someone who wants what you have to give.
