galrads: Although I find you to be one of the more successful trolls on CS, I agree with you here. As well as volunteer police being paid, we have volunteer fireman here who are also paid. Their pay has income taxes automatically deducted from their pay.
Also, compensation for volunteering, whether taxable or not, is a form of being paid too. For instance, when I volunteer at a hospital for cancer patients, I receive a voucher to pay my cost for parking while I'm there. If I volunteer and work over x number of hours I receive a voucher for a meal in their cafeteria costing up to x number of dollars ... and so on. I am being compensated for my time volunteering to work for the hospital helping people in various ways.
I wasn't sure what "troll" meant, so I researched it. The definition I found states, "deliberately provocative internet user". I believe I have clear boundaries, and making a comment that is germane to other comments is not in and of itself "provocative". I fail to see where educating people to specific meanings is trolling or 'provocative'. You are being provocative by calling me a name--why is it that when others have a different view than you your response is aggressive? Are you unable to learn and/or at least be open minded enough to see how others may see things? For far too long, the Police in the USA, have lived with the notion that they are above the law all because they carry a gun, a baton and a badge. What is sad is that they kill Americans of all colour, week in , week out, all in the name of carrying out their duties. The evidence on the ground suggests otherwise. Some of them are no less than thugs, thieves, drug dealers and gun-runners!
