Haven't seen the movie, yet. But the book was one of the best I've read this past year. Being a catholic, it really made me re-think about what I learned about catholicism while growing up. I know a few people that refuse to read it. Maybe their faith is shakier than they want to admit. I know it changed the way I think. And the devout believers who were interviewed on the 60 Minutes segment did nothing to dissuade me from thinking that anything in the book may not be true. It's been hard to find anyone willing to discuss the book.
Good topic for a thread.thumbs up

I have both seen the movie "DaVinci" Code and read the book Demons and Angels...i preferred Demons and Angels myself personally...

As for the Davinci Code and it shaking your faith...

If in fact Jesus did marry and have children...does that change who he was, what he did, what he accomplished on this earth?

Who knows what was in the mind of Leonardo DaVinci when he painted the last supper...it is the most renown painting of the supper, yet it has only now come to light that one of the disciples at that table may in fact have been a woman, Mary...and perhaps the wife of Jesus?

Christianity is a measure of faith...believing in what is not tangible...but we accept that...so where is the faith of the people who are "Christians" (regardless of their denomination) if one book and one interpretation of a picture can shake their belief??

I have not read the book not seen the movie. Maybe some Christians just felt that it was something that they should stay away from. L.

..."Maybe some Christians just felt that it was something that they should stay away from. L."...

I don't disagree, and certainly that is thier perrogative, however I would like to say that "knowledge is power"...knowing what you are up against can only make you stronger...JMO

As well, perhaps its that kind of attitudes of Christians in this day and age that has allowed the removal of "Christ" in Christmas, so now we are just celebrating "holidays"...the fact that we must respect the right of other religions in our school, while Christianity takes a back seat to make way for the "squeaky wheel"...

and again..that is just my opinion....dunno

Yes, I know what you mean. I think that some Christians feel that they have "The World" coming at them in so many ways and from so many people, that they choose to isolate themselves. It is a form of survival. However, I don't think that you can blame Christians for Christmas becoming a secular holiday. L.

Business, I suppose. They certainly make a huge profit out of Christmas. Perhaps a lot of people just want to enjoy snowmen and sleigh bells - they want an excuse for a holiday. L.

It's been a while since I read Davinci Code, but I think what the book also suggests is that how the bible perceives Jesus Christ may not be true, because the bible was written hundreds of years later with a biased slant to it, and was written to make Jesus Christ appear to be devine when he was nothing more than a simple man. It was written in that manner for political reasons so that a certain roman leader of the time would not be ousted, and giving the people something to believe in...something that was not a threat to the position held by the ruler of that era.
I don't think the book really contradicts that Jesus was a decent man, but it does raise the question of divinity.

yes i agree. it certainly had me scracthing my head, asking all kinds of questions. Is the bible not true? was Jesus married? have kids?
i still believe Jesus was a great man, here to preach the good word. He described for his followers what he came to do. And that was to build a relationship with people. He came to take away enmity, to take away the strife, to take away the isolation that existed between God and man. His message and life is a message of hope and a message of mercy and a message of life in a dark world.

Christianity is nothing more, nothing less than a desire and an effort to see Jesus. The Davinci Code does not change i would think.

its what i still believe irregardless of what this movie suggests. allbet the movie does raise interesting questions but really has nothing to do with my belief in Jesus, just adds more unanswered questions.

There are no absolutes when it comes to Christ or Religion etc. Christ is only divine if one believes him to be. It is an unprovable, untangible concept. No book, Da Vinci Code, Bible, or whatever can prove or disprove anything absolutely. I read the book and enjoyed it for what it was, and what the author intended it to be...good old fashioned thriller fiction. Any time someone writes a controvertial book based on religion it stirs outrage and curiosity, more to the authors benefit...and wallet. The author sits back while the cash keeps rolling in. Salman Rushdie wrote a controvertial novel on Islam some years ago. He had nations put him on hit lists. Now, he's a gozillionaire.

The folks that thought The Da Vinci Code was a threat to Christianity, including the Vatican, are going to denounce it. Of course the Vatican will denounce it. The Holy See is a 2000 year old political entity that was built on the idea of asserting absolute control of human thinking and belief. In reality, you would be hard pressed to NOT find a copy of this book on many Catholic priest's bookshelves. Not because they felt it may change their doctrines or beliefs. On the contrary, it is because it's a fanciful story in which the church is the star of the show.angel

Its what i believe too Darrin...its merely someone's interpretation...as is the bible...that is why "Christianity" has been divided into "denominations"...because each group interprets what they read differently...

It is what you choose to believe what counts...

I found the movie long in some parts so I would get up and clean around the kitchen in those parts lol But all in all I found the movie not bad. I won't buy it or watch it over again but it was okay I guess.

I have not read the book but heard many say they found the book more interesting as well.
