Christmas Tree Island, besides being a sanctuary for sailors, hippies, and pirates from around the world, is also the first and last stop for migratory birds going up and down from Cuba to South America, and back....
The first to arrive are the tiny finches, followed by bigger birds, the hawks, and falcons, and eagles come last; and they all rest on Christmas Tree Island.
There used to be two islands side by side like Christmas Tree; but someone (a fireman/hotel employee is suspected) burned all the trees off of one island; and it has a lousy hotel on it now! If they ever catch the guy who lit the fire, he'll probably end up dead.
Christmas Tree Island is a valuable treasure! On full moons, the trees might be full of people on LSD, climbing from tree to tree, leaning them into eachother, going around the island without touching the ground.
It's loved by the birds, the hippies, and the Conchs (locals) on Key West, which include real pirates! the kind locals tell you to never go on a boat with...
When I was there, someone started a fire on it... we put out the fire with dirt and pots of water, and by blistering our bare hands. If you tried to cut down all the trees on Christmas Tree Island, it could be fatal for you; and you'd probably end up in jail or prison, if you were lucky.
