bodleing2: If anyone is concerned about being alone on Christmas Day, try helping out a a local homeless shelter or Salvation Army centre, they're always thankful for any help on Christmas Day.
It can give great satisfaction knowing you've helped others and spent the day meaningfully.
I agree.

Thinking of others takes one's mind off oneself

Last year I remember talking to a guy who was really happy. He had been sleeping on the streets for many months, but now he had a brand new tent and and told me he even had a "lovely spot" just outside the town centre to pitch it.

Sometimes we need to count our blessings.

And of course, be thankful you've got a home to be alone in.

Counting our blessings usually last for that split second that we encounter a situation like you described.

Then we go back to normality .
