donal63: i remember the old days,up for work at 4 year old,down coal mine,for 12 hour a day,having to feed my wife and 14 kids,good old days!
Ireland, yes I have read about Ireland in the past, also how the Irish were treated when coming to the US I don't believe a 4-year-old working in the mine

Must have been as none sounded believable to me The Irish did suffer that I do believe, the workhouses, living many families in one-row house the mines etc

here were 4 farthings to a penny, 12 penniess to a shilling, two shillings to a florin, two and half shillings to a half crown, and 20 shillings to a pound ... and the coins were farthing, halfpenny, penny, threepence, sixpence, shilling, two shilling and half crown (and by now those of you with 'metricated heads' are spinning!)
Thank you for the above, when reading a book about England, and it mentions their money, I never had a clue about how much it would be in dollars etc. I was raised on the metric system, so much easier than yours for sure
