That's a splendid book.

Touching the Void sounds rather more gritty. wow

Round Ireland with a Fridge puts me in mind of Penguins Stopped Play by Harry Thompson. Again, not a literary masterpiece, but quintessentially English in it's navigation of the line between the ridiculous and profound.

That sounds like my king of book jac, travel, sport and comedy all in one, I'll have to check it out..thumbs up

Touching the Void is a compelling read and a spellbinding film, even the stage adaptation keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Even though it's primarily a mountaineering story, it's appeal is by no means limited to the mountaineering fraternity.

When word got out that Simon Yates had cut the rope sending his climbing partner Joe Simpson to his almost certain death, the climbing world was in shock and disbelief. Touching the Void is the harrowing story of one mans struggle to survive against impossible odds and how the real truth of that desperately agonising event really played out.....not for the feint hearted.

The film trailer.....

The stage adaptation at the Old Vic trailer...

And it's all you deserve, but it doesn't really come under the description of a book swap.

Carry on....grin

The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous by Jilly Cooper.

I shan't spoil it by giving away plot.

Sounds interesting. I could swap you a copy of Elizabeth West's charming account of moving to a semi-derelict farmhouse in rural Snowdonia. Not exactly 'the valleys' but still beautiful Wales.

jac_the_gripper: Stylish.
Haha, I can see how that could be misconstrued. It was a hovel when they bought it in the 1960's, in fact it was semi-derelict. But they struggled on to make the cottage into a wonderful home and accomplish their dream of escaping the rat race. A lovely read with a follow up...Garden in the Hills....

"Partly a how-to manual for keen country gardeners, partly a tale of moral and spiritual commitment, partly a love story, Garden in the Hills is a charming and powerful narrative by a skilled, natural writer."
