The thread was not meant specifically to deal with the "gay" issue...I know it is a controversial subject....as is alot of other things...

What i was trying to get at is whether or not people really feel they can "speak their mind" about any given topic and not feel intimidated if their view oppose the "majority"...

A person's view is going to change if they really want it to change, and for the most part i am not here on the forums to try and change anyone's view on any given topic, merely to offer my own opinion of same...

Sometimes i play "devils advocate" just to bring to the table different views that can be discussed, or perhaps just give something to think about...

As my friend Alex said..."without challenge there is no conflict"...

If i "challenge" someone to clarify their statement, does not mean i necessarily disagree with it, i'm just trying to find out what prompts their answer...and therefore perhaps build on my own...

Just rereading some of the comments on this thread...and it came to mind...

It also seems that "replies" from posters reflect and depend on "who" the originator of the thread is...

Would that be a fair statement??dunno

One of the things i have noticed is that there are many who are saying they are not willing to "argue" or want to avoid the "drama" in the forums with certain topics (and myself included...ummm...most days anyways!laugh )

However, the topics that become "controversial" are the ones that people are "passionate" about...and though some statements and comments may be "uninformed"...it is how that person feels at the moment...but how else will their views perhaps change or become "informed" if the "opposing" view sits back and finds the topic/people "unworthy" of their time??

If one cannot "bother" with the ignorance sometimes portrayed, then who exactly are you saving your arguments for??...the ones that do not challenge what you say?

***Sorry I am jumping between the two forums, but points brought up there i feel important enough to state here as well...though it may be "repetitive"...handshake

No wikked, it does not matter who the author is. Not to me anyway. What matters is the content of the post. I could care less who creates or contributes to a thread. If I don't like the topic, I won't post. If I like the topic or what is being discussed, I will jump in, regardless of who created it or who posted in it.

I know that Jane...and on the best of days i have to "bite my tongue" and reply as i would in any other topic, but knowing the comment/reply made, was based on the fact that it was "I" who posed the question...

I am positive you have had to deal with this on here as well...cheers

You touched on a few things of interest to which I agree on. How can someone complain about those who take the time to articulate, clarify and reason an opinion and they say they can't be bothered, it's a waste of time, they don't want to get involved, too much "drama"? Discussing issues and debatting back and forth and reasoning each different view or opinion is not drama. How can those that stand by their opinion, with reasoning, be criticized and labelled as "bashing" when they don't agree with an opinion and take the time to explain why they don't agree with something? Is it easier just to do that than jump in and take the time and take part in a discussion, heated or not?

It is discussing an issue or opinion. Nothing wrong with that. While some issues can heat up, that is normal and not something new. With so many different people and differences of opinion, it can and will happen. If you throw into the mix, anger, hatred, or slurs, that's when the thread blows off.

I speak my mind but when the anger, hatred, or mud slinging slurs start, I will just walk away. Life's too short. Sometimes it's just not worth it to me in the scheme of things.hug

I really enjoy a good debate. Many forum users have valid points to make & give their opinion openly.

What I don't like happens not so much on our forum but on the international one. I wish it wasn't so but is in some cases.

There is a tendency to mass attack a person for a dissenting view or a new way to look at things. Many terms used, unfamiliar to most of us, are thrown at a new person who innocently makes a mistake. Instead of gentle correction, there is overreaction, "search & destroy", or if that fails snubbing & ignoring, then comes talking about them on a new thread...as if the person did not exist. professor

Thank goodness for the Canadian forum, where users can speak freely and directly to one another.
