Riders
(or even if you dont. read this)

I saw you, hug your purse closer to you in the grocery store line. But, you didn't see me, put an extra $10.00 in the collection plate last Sunday.

I saw you, pull your child closer when we passed each other on the sidewalk. But, you didn't see me, playing Santa at the local mall.

I saw you, change your mind about going into the restaurant.
But, you didn't see me, attending a meeting to raise more money for the hurricane relief.

I saw you, roll up your window and shake your head when I rode by. But, you didn't see me, riding behind you when you flicked your cigarette butt out the car window.

I saw you, frown at me when I smiled at your children.
But, you didn't see me, when I took time off from work to run toys to the homeless.

I saw you, stare at my long hair. But, you didn't see me, and my friends cut ten inches off for Locks of Love.

I saw you, roll your eyes at our leather jackets and gloves.
But, you didn't see me, and my brothers donate our old ones to those that had none.

I saw you, look in fright at my tattoos.
But, you didn't see me, cry as my children where born and have their name written over and in my heart.

I saw you, change lanes while rushing off to go somewhere.
But, you didn't see me, going home to be with my family.

I saw you, complain about how loud and noisy our bikes can be.
But, you didn't see me, when you were changing the CD and drifted into my lane.

I saw you, yelling at your kids in the car.
But, you didn't see me, pat my child's hands, knowing he was safe behind me.

I saw you, reading the newspaper or map as you drove down the road. But, you didn't see me, squeeze my wife's leg when she told me to take the next turn.

I saw you, race down the road in the rain.
But, you didn't see me, get soaked to the skin so my son could have the car to go on his date.

I saw you, run the yellow light just to save a few minutes of time.
But, you didn't see me, trying to turn right.

I saw you, cut me off because you needed to be in the lane I was in. But, you didn't see me, leave the road.

I saw you, waiting impatiently for my friends to pass.
But, you didn't see me. I wasn't there.

I saw you, go home to your family. But, you didn't see me.
Because, I died that day you cut me off.

I was just a biker. A person with friends and a family.
But, you didn't see me.

I am posting this in hopes that people will understand the biker community .
I hope you never lose someone that rides. I have.

My husband and I used to ride everywhere. We rode with clubs, and in runs a many. I have lost friends and had them maimed due to accidents that were not their fault. People in vehicles either not paying attention or just stupid. Please stay a good distance from behind a bike, pass a safe distance from them. Always be aware they can slide on gravel and be swayed by a large truck, and the wind.
The biker you may be behind just might be my sister and her husband or a good friend of mine. It could even be me.
I have lost two really good friends in the last year to no fault of their own. The last one was a preacher of a church that is mostly made up of bikers and people that feel uncomfortable in a "citizens" church. A pickup pulling a 16 ft. trailer moved across the line and hit him and his wife. They were both killed. Please, bikers are people too.

Have a great week my friends!
Kat

Kat,
So sorry for your losses. I know how you feel I have lost friends who ride as well. I have also been on the back when cars cut you off more than once. Scary to say the least but more common now than it used to be.
Take care and ride safe,
Cat

i have lost freinds on bikes due to unwitted drivers of larger modes of transportation

i have also lost a few biker friends that were not to smart as they rode as well such as when riding side by side drifting across the center line

so yes it is a two way street (literially as well)

and the list of actions you listed can be attributed to many not just the biker

but still a good list just the same

this is in no way a put down of this thread nor bikers

i propably have 5 million miles on bikes

and yes have lived and still live your list

as witnessed by the public assistance thread

sigh

so just beaware of what is going on around you at all times

may all have a safe ride

and much good to you all

You are correct. I have witnessed many bikers that ride the line. Not too safe either. We need to all remember that that line is not for driving or riding on.
I couldn't tell you how many miles I have, but it is loads.
Thank you for posting.

Yeah, I understand.
My youngest son is wanting a bike again. He is 26 now, with a new baby, I might add. I keep trying to talk him out of it. I am scared for him. But, he doesn't let me get away with it. He says " Mom! Look whos talking..aauuunnndd, who bought me my first bike??"blushing That would be me......Buuuttt! It was a street legal dirt bike. I took him out to the country and in fields and dirt roads to ride it. I know, I know, excuses are like a**hole.sigh He's my baaabeeee.

I might add also that he isn't looking at a real bike. He is looking at a crotch rocket, all plastic and speed. No comfort. I have ridden on the back of a crotch rocket. It sucks. Nothing comfortable about that bike.

Coming into this one a bit late, but GREAT post - thank you.

I've been riding for 20+ years (two bikes, one daily rider and one recently finished project). I've actually tried hanging it up a few times, but seemingly cannot. I just assume the risk.

Be safe out there.
