Do you believe that we were born into this world with a return ticket?
One of my treasured friends is a cancer specialist, she smokes and drinks and is devoutly religious. When I asked her recently if there was some contradiction in her personal habits and her occupation, she replied with eloquent simplicity.
No, she said, I believe I was born into this world with a return ticket. My God will tell me when my time has come.
I know her well, I therefore persisted, yes, I said, but aren’t you increasing your chances of contacting any one of a number smoking related complaints, once again, she said, no, I have patients who have never touched a drop of alcohol or smoked and also eat properly, but still come to my clinic in comparatively large numbers for treatment.
What are you views on the subject? I am agnostic, so no further comment from me.
we have chosen to be here at this time for some event as yet unrevealed... we can consciously take ourselves out of here at any time thru our recklessness or lifestyle.....strictly choice...but we can all look inward and connect with our state of being...you can create cancer with thoughts of it...or you can beat it the same way...your choice... god sets the stage..you are the actor
I was born Catholic but not religious... This poses an interesting theory. A return ticket? I suppose that this could be the case. I fully believe that when God wants us to come home to Him, he has the final word on the subject. I worked in nursing and saw alot of things that didn't make sense. Why does He choose a small child to go when there are evil people still here? I like to believe that everything happens for a reason. But He alone knows what that is. It is puzzling. I watched my father who was a wonderful giving person die a horrible painful death from cancer, and my mother who is the epitomy of evilmindedness, is still here. She smokes, drinks, eats badly and is nasty to those who try to do the most for her. She has a bad heart and many many medical problems. So where is that justice??? I truly believe that when it is our time..........it is time. I guess we didn't come with a one-way ticket! Let's just hope that when we return that it is to a much better place than here!

Amen sistah!
I was almost killed in an accident. The reason I lived is cause I was still needed, tho I couldn't see for what until a few years later.
When I go it will be to a better place, if I didn't believe that I'd just cash out my chips and check out now! Not really, I'm having too much fun, but I wouldn't be if I didn't believe that there is a purpose to my life.
When I do go, don't cry for me, be happy, cause I sure will be!
"Every exit is a doorway to somewhere else."-Zen Koan
I think people ponder this question a little more than they should.
If you spend your time constantly thinking about the end of the road, you miss all the tourist attractions along the way.
And there are some good'ns.
"Know then thyself, presume not God to scan The proper study of mankind is man. Placed on this isthmus of a middle state, A being darkly wise, and rudely great: With too much knowledge for the sceptic side, With too much weakness for the stoic's pride, He hangs between; in doubt to act, or rest; In doubt to deem himself a God, or beast; In doubt his mind and body to prefer; Born but to die, and reas'ning but to err; Alike in ignorance, his reason such, Whether he thinks to little, or too much; Chaos of thought and passion, all confus'd; Still by himself, abus'd or disabus'd; Created half to rise and half to fall; Great lord of all things, yet a prey to all, Sole judge of truth, in endless error hurl'd; The glory, jest and riddle of the world." -The Riddle of the World Alexander Pope
My advice, taken from Alexander Pope, is to really get to be friends with yourself, not yesterday, or tommorrow, but today.
Well paddy it's kinda like this,we are born into this world with FREE WILL to choose to follow the teachings of The one True God, or to ignore him...
The Bible has been tampered with by The Vatican,so you may go another way like medditation, but when you get to the point where you can leave your body, then you will be able to see all that The Lord has created, but Our Lord reaches far beyond this tiny rock we call earth...
This is where our visitors come into the picture, some call them UFO but in realitythey are just Anti Gravity and Trans Dimentional Space Craft, but the funny thing about them, is that they bow down to the same GOD that we do...
You would find this through the study of Exopoletics, What I find most intresting is that devoid of our GOD, Nothing of this planet can work...
I study UFO and recover ancient tech and throughout The History of this planet and all the others there has always been The Hand of GOD pointing our way forward, these day's you can read it in a book or here on the net...
it's all about FREE WILL and weather you choose eturnal Life in Paradise with Christ, or weather you choose to suffer in a Lake if Fire with all The Satin's
If you don't get what The Bible say's ask GOD to help you to understand it and He will,Our God is a living GOD that is within us always...
Just pick up a Bible and read it,it can't hurt you, The Bible will only help you................
Hopefully she isn't dispensing such wisdom to her patients! I think it would be one think to have such beliefs, but a smoker needs to be told the consequences of his/her actions. And it would be most unhelpful if the doctor said to their patients: Carry on smoking, giving it up will not effect your longevity. It was predetermined by "My God". I think that advise would border on the criminal.
I believe like the poster above me said, God gave us free will, so while there are definately things in our lives that God chooses to control the outcome of for whatever purpose He has in mind, we also have been given free will to make choices that can affect the outcome of our lives. If our free will was pointless, in that no matter what we did our course was predetermined in all ways, then it really wouldn't be free will at all. God knows ahead of time the course our lives will take, as He is all knowing, but it is not always the course that He would choose for us if we followed His path the whole way.
