Hi Valeria, don't speak too soon, he may be saving your proposal for tomorrow! I didn't understand if you meant someone proposed to you in Turkey whilst you were with your husband or was it him who proposed and was your husband turkish?

no, we were in a restaurant, having a meal, we'd been there few times before so this Turkish guy was always all over me and decided to propose in front of my husband though he knew he was my husband so all i have to say is thank God my ex had a sense of humor. Needless to say that was a last time we went there...all good fun!

Ah right, I'm with you now, same thing happened to one of my mates a couple of years ago when she went to marmaris with her husband. I don't think her husband took it so well though, in fact he was quite annoyed but it still didnt seem to put the turk off chasing after her.

I think Turkish men are really bad in that respect as they just do not care, but so many British women fall for it so i suppose that is why they keep trying

Hi everyone - hope you are all wellwave
Well, I think it all depends on how good their command of English is. Some say that they speak or understand well but when it comes to humour they havent a clue. You can sometimes say something tongue in cheek or just be making a joke and they can take it very seriously and totally not understand it was a joke! That is because they dont understand our humour and likewise in an argument - we tend to use phrases that are alien to them like for instance you may shout " are you taking the p...s" how on earth would they have a clue what you meant if they tried to translate that one. So it all depends on how acclimatised they are to our language.

Language is the main problem I think as it is difficult to communicate to person from this country never mind somebody from another. That is where the problems start. Also it depends on personal attitude and ability to adjust your views to new environment, not everybody who come here willing to do so, i am not saying that they have to but it is always easier that way

I agree. I think it takes a very special person to be truly happily married to someone from a totally different culture as you have to make so many changes and walk a fine line between being yourself but also accomodating what you are expected to be. I think that the language thing though is the hardest. You can deal with all the other things by understanding for instance - you can have an opinion that is different from your partner but dont voice it in front of his friends - that kind of thing but the language thing lends itself to all sorts of misunderstandings.

I heard they mostly prefer blondes or fairer haired women so don't think I'd have too much to worry about if I did ever go on holiday to Turkey, unless I pack my blonde fancy dress Abba wig laugh
