And lastly they keep changing the rules as street slang becomes mainstream English.

So Fat and Phat mean the same yet mean completely opposite as well.

Bad now means good except when used to mean bad.

Fly means cool except if your a fly.

Cool is spelt cool or Kool depending on whether your a cool person doing the spelling or not.

And if a Parent tries to use a kids language they are so last year (which doesn't mean they got younger) and if they respond in old school English they are so unkool. So how do we win or commuincate.moping

I'll think I'll go learn Russian.sigh

But that's the beauty of language. It evolves, just like we do.

Excellent post and yes, english is hard--especially spelling and vocabulary. We seem to borrow words left and right from everyone so it makes for all kinds of variety. Good, wonderfully expressive language but also one that can drive people crazy.

While this is true, I find that other countries have much more varied and stronger accents compared to English in the U.S., especially considering the size of the country. I'm originally from Germany and there I can already tell the difference in dialect if I go to a neighboring town less than 5 miles away. I know it's even worse in India where dialects vary so much they developed into own languages.
