Well mountain streams contain many bacteria and other microorganims....So the most common are stomach problems...You must carry toilet paper always!!
I have heard that special forces that operate in the joungle carry chlorine tablets that can be disloved in water and clean it...So carry one...You will never know when you will need one!!
Giardia is a parasite that infects the intestines of humans and animals. When a person gets sick, the infection is called giardiasis, or 'beaver fever'. Giardiasis is usually a water-borne disease. Giardia is a common cause of diarrhea in B.C. and the world.
I think people are far too clean in their living styles.
Antibacteria soaps, hand cleaners and so on. We run to the doctors with all sorts of minor ailments, get pumped full of antibiotics......
......and then wonder why our bodies have less natural resistance to virus and infection.
I'd much rather drink water from a mountain stream than the crap that is produced by the local town's treatment plant.
I'm on well water and have it tested perhaps three times a year. It always shows positive (minor) and I always get a concerned letter to follow. I always ignore it and rarely suffer from any stomach problems.
We're paranoid about making our world so clean and healthy, that we are getting ill from it.
You get it from drinking the water in the wild.. if it is present.... but if not careful and using cleanliness one can get it from others who have it.... They have a lovely stool testing... one can take if one thinks one has it.....
