The past which we cannot touch, which we eventually lose all memory of, is it a dream or the mere creator of the present - the present which in itself can hardly be grasped before it is enveloped in the past.
The past can be a learning experience, the past can be bittersweet, the past can be something one wants to forget or the past can be something that someone lives in because they are afraid to see the future.
The past is what it is past and we can't live by the mistakes we made or didn't make, we have to learn to go on and accept things for what they are and that's how someone moves forward into a better future.
The past ...creates the present...creates the future....creates the past
A continuing circle changing every second.......
Imagine how many past, present and futures we live in a life time.
How many chances we are given to change our destiny....
I dont believe we lose memory of the past....just the little inconsequential moments...moments which we spent idle. We usually remember moments of great happiness or pain...albeit sometimes a little distorted.

hmmm - nice one
i seem to recall mostly the bad experiences in my past more than the good ones
however, i still make the same mistakes so i guess it teaches me nothing funnily enough though, i have had certain dreams which i have remebered that have definately stuck with me as a warning - and then come true! so i guess i just NEVER LEARN!
Hi bb - perhaps these words fit the equation? As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be. - The wisest of words are often found in prayers, in particular those emitted from the heart.
well what is past, what is present and what is future.. by just simply writing this sentence i have gone through all three states... since as soon as the clock ticks what we consider is present is actually past and what we think is the future is already past.
People who have great nostalgia for the past (I count myself in that number) should realize that the present is tomorrow's yesterday. So enjoy today, today instead of waxing nostalgic about it tomorrow.
Interesting! For me the most vital words in your post 'what we think' - for it is in only applying words and thoughts to the 'tenses' of time that we actually step outside of the ever-present ever-changing present. Besides the words 'what we think' we are left to ponder on the question of your post which is worth pondering - indeed, what is past present future -what is anything if not a dream? It would appear Shakespear pondered on that question and still {all these years later-in his future} we still ponder from within the dream that is life-that cannot be explained or rationalised-not until perhaps we step outside of time and rest in the realm of timeless freedom.
