Novels aren't necessarily 'true', but they aren't lying, either. An actor plays a part where he/she says many things that aren't 'true'. It isn't what's true or not, it's what is perceived. People get upset by their own beliefs, not what comes from outside. For example, being offended by the caracature of someone you admire is only upsetting when you already have an image in your mind. It isn't the fact of the 'exterior' stimulation, but the 'interior' processing.

We are absolutely free. But freedom does imply responsibility.

To me the term "freedom of speech" means that I have I right to my own personal opinion and to voice my own personal opinion. It also means that aslong as my words are not illegal I can not becharged with stating my opinion.

For example I can say that Coke is the only soft drink around all other companies bottling cola should be closed.

But I can not say any one who drinks Pepsi should be shot. i don't evenbeleive that. I bel;eive they should be tied to the bumper of my dodge and dragged down the road. Oh sorry did I say that out loud?

To me freedom of speech is to voice your concerns and opinions and all. But to also do so in a very polite and non judgemental way.

Everyone has their right to what they feel but also we should respect one another for it as long as its not hurting the other person/s involved.

Do I make any sense lol

Freedom of Speech according to Allen;

If I stand in a crowd and say "Pretty women please bow down to your king" than I can't be punished for abusing my kingly powers...even if its in my own head =)

Freedom of speech is as most of the rights a non absolut right, meaning, it's relative, it has to be conjugated with other people's interests and rights!It's not like property right, which is absolut, the stuff is your and that's it!No, that doesnt happen with freedom of speech.Say whatever you wanna say till you ofend others.Ofenses might be crime, of course you will say that ofenses are relative as well, but there are objective ofenses, and the circumstances must be taken into account.If a crazy goes to you screaming you are a thief, claiming you stole something from him...it's ofensive in itsself but the circumstances don't lead to condemn him!So, we cant go out saying bad things, offending people that you know they are in anerve with you, just prepared to attack at anytime, just because of freedom of spech!Watch the whole circumstances!

According to me:

I think we're entitled to freedom of speech on a personal level as long as we accept the responsibility that goes with it. If I make a statement about someone, can I back it up? Am I prepared to fight my corner and even if it's true, is the battle worth fighting? I have to be prepared to go on to the end, however long that takes.

Also, we all know examples down the years where individuals had to swim against the tide of public opinion and speak their mind. In the 60s it would have been Martin Luther King and the rights of the black community. In the 70s and 80s, it would have been the gay community. As society changes, those who lead the way stand alone at times till the rest of us catch up,

Then there are the others who use freedom of speach to stir hatred only too often in the name of religeon. I'm not really sure what to do about them. Is it better to let them voice their evil so we know who they are? Or do we suppress them and drive them underground into the shaddows and spend our lives looking over our shoulders for them to come.

One problem I do see,in the U.S. is that if you stand up against the government on sensitive issues, you can be labeled as Un-American and if this pervades into the media, then the information we all receive becomes filtered. Can we have free thought and free speech when we don't have all the facts? That's for another day I suppose.
