Being a lover of classical and flamenco, I cannot help but give my vote to Andres Segovia. Its not so much about the showmanship and the fame associated. Its about the toiling until you execute the piece perfectly. Listen to some pieces like the Requerdos de la Allhambra or the Asturias of leyanda played by him and you will know it.
actually you cannot compare musicians thats what ive learnt. I could choose jimmy hendrix or eric clampton for one and segovia or terrega for another style or paco de lucia... all are masters.
I agree with only about half of this list, and Eddie Van Halen is not even on it???WHAT???
Hey, I'm not a big Van Halen Fan(Never did like David Lee Roth) liked Sammy Hagar, alot, but he doesn't count, 'cuz it was Davids band first, and Sammy had his own good bands... But! I DO KNOW talent when I hear it, and Eddie V. is pretty good, and should be at LEAST in the top 30!
Definitely Jimmy Page in the 70's! He was my idol when I was younger, and was the reason I started playing the guitar in the first place. I was also a fan of Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and David Gilmour of Pink Floyd.
Best of the early 80's was Eddie Van Halen
Best of the mid 80's through late 90's was Stevie Ray Vaughn. I cried when he died in that helicopter accident! For those of you who don't know this, Eric Clapton was supposed to be flying with him, but backed out at the last minute!
