She lives in Buffalo NY.. she and I have been friends for years and travel a lot together.. we talk on the phone for HOURS (as women do).. We also go to Vegas every year.. Thats her in the picture of me with glasses on.
Anywayyy.. when we were in Vegas in October, she complained constantly about a pain in her right shoulder.. we couldn't pin it down to anything.. it wasn't triggered by anything.. didn't seem to be muscle pain.. etc. But it was reeeelly giving her jip.
On the way home on the plane.. she ansd I started sniffing and coughing.. we both ended up getting home and being off work ill.. (thats how I started in here.. bored and off work sick)..
After two weeks she was so bad she had to go to the hosp .. they X rayed her and they told her she had bronchial pneumonia..
The next day they called her back and asked her to come and see her doctor.. where he told her they had noticed a shadow (7cms!) on her Liver.
She and I are always trying to lose weight.. and in the month since we had come back from Vegas she had lost THIRTY THREE pounds in a month..
Anywayy.. this morning I woke up to a text message to say that they have diagnosed her with Liver cancer.
I am waiting for her to wake up so I can call her.
(that shoulder pain is one of the clues to liver cancer.. I Googled it and some of her other symptoms.. some time ago.. and didn't tell her, because it was freaking me out enough and she didn't need that on top)
Claire, I am so very sorry to hear about your friend. I remember you telling me that she wasn't feeling well..I will keep both of you in my prayers and in my thoughts.

I remember when she was worried about the results (its taken al ot of tests to get to here)... she was worrying if is WAS bad.. what if she had to have Chemo.. what if she lost her hair etc..
I remember saying not to worry.. I would use her head as a palette and write or draw on it everyday..
like *Don't speak to me.. I'm pissed OFF!*
It was funny when I was trying to keep her positive.

yeah to be honest.. its what I do in my job.. but I'm not so emotionally attached then.. i don't want to make her feel worse.. I don't want to screw up and say the wrong thing..
If the two of you are that close...how can you say the wrong thing...she trusts your opinion and values your friendship...she would expect you to be yourself and nothing more or less than that....
Don't guard your words to her...she will feel the unease...that would make it harder on her....
That is what I would ask of my best friend of 20+ years.....
I am surprised and really sorry to hear this news of your friend.
She looks really young.. also when my mum was diagnosed with liver cancer I was told that liver cancer is usually a secondary cancer which doesn't seem to be the case with your friend.
As you say you deal with this kind of thing in your job. But, I know it's harder to bear when you are emotionally involved.
What a nitemare for you
But, I know you will stay strong and get through this

So sorry to hear this. Just be yourself and do what comes naturally, you will be the strong one when she needs you to be strong, you are allowed to be unhappy about this terribly sad thing.
