I might get the chance to update my profile picture next week, and it got me to thinking about some threads I’ve seen recently where people criticize other users calling them “frauds” and “hypocrites” because their profile picture is old.

This astounds me. I don’t know how someone with a profile picture of him/herself 5, 10, 15 years ago makes them a fraud or a hypocrite. Nor do I understand why others would frankly care and take the time to insult. It’s interesting that these same people who call someone a fraud/hypocrite for having an older picture, will compliment another member who has a kitten or Mickey Mouse or a horse as their profile picture.
Makes me wonder exactly how they are defining hypocrisy.

My profile pictures are mainly from 2006 because that’s when I had a pretty good computer set-up with a digital camera, scanner, webcams and such. They are about 14-18 months old and most of them have the date captioned below them. I sold that system when I needed money last year to move next door to my Father. I don’t have a digital camera now, so I posted the most recent pictures I have. I don’t think that makes me a hypocrite. I think it makes me a person who doesn’t have a picture from last week.

Should I have posted a picture of a seagull or kitten instead? Then would I be a less fraudulent individual because I portray myself as a bird or a cat instead of how I looked 18 months ago?
Or should I have posted no picture at all? Then I could be trash talked for being “afraid to reveal myself” or “untrustworthy” or something of that ridiculous nature.
Or maybe I should neglect my household financially and spend the money to run out and buy a new digital camera to appease some people on the internet. Would that make me less of a hypocrite?

If someone posts a picture of him/herself when they were 3 years old blowing out birthday candles, then that would probably be “cute”. But if they post pictures of themselves when they were 22 in a bikini, then they are a “fraud”. Is there a certain age span from childhood that’s “acceptable” but a certain age span from adulthood that makes them “posers”?

So, I’m asking those of you who feel you have the right to call people names when they post an older profile picture: Why do you even care in the first place? What makes a profile picture of a kitten, flag, or rhinoceros, a better choice? Exactly what is the “cut-off” in your mind to how old a profile picture can be without assuming it’s deceitful? What is the correlation you make between “old picture” and “hypocrite”? And do you honestly believe that the date of someone’s photograph really changes who they are on the inside now?

It’s not that the answers are really all that important to me either way. I’m just wondering where people get off thinking they have any kind of logical reason to insult others based on the date of a photograph.
Oh, and this isn't just a "me" issue. I’ve seen people make these snide remarks about other members with older pics as well.
cheers

Im surprised that you are going to bother with new pics of yourself. I seem to recall your saying that the people on this site do not stimulate you interlectually and that you would be moving on.

Hmmm.. you must have read me wrong. What I said was I don't get the intellectual stimulation here I thought I would, I'd probably spend less time here, but I would stay at CS as long as I was single.

I don't like you and you don't like me, but I'll let you in on a little secret.........the smartest guys on CS don't get involved in the forums. So if you want a smart guy, look for one that doesn't get involved in the petty arguments on here. Before you yap, I know I'm also putting myself down but hey I never wrote that I was smart.......just interesting, funny, handsome, good body, artistic, rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

Now back to us hating each other with a passionvery mad

I would have put up my picture or even sent it out to people but it seems I've amassed quite a hate group on here so no picture of me. So for now my words will have to sufficeblues

Sorry.

Insulting someone over their picture, no reason to...theres never really a reason to insult anyone, especially over their picture or how they look. That I agree with you on. Then again, I havent read any posts that insulted someone due to that fact or cuz of animal pics they have on their profile, maybe I just havent read the threads your referring to.

In regards tho to updated pictures...hmmmm thats an interesting topic for me this week. If a person is on the site to just be friends, I dont see any reason that old pics would matter. However, more of a concern is the people who are looking for someone and their profile pics dont match their appearance any longer. That tends to cause a problem in my eyes, unless they have made it clear on how old the pic is and how they have changed since the date of the pic. Changes do occur within 3, 5, and 10 years, whether we want to believe that or not. Why give someone an impression that you look like the posted pic, when in real you have changed...its more of false advertising, wouldnt go as far as fraud and all..if there is a seperation there. So in my opinion it does matter if your looking for a trust worthy partner or something intimate compared to a friendship. If you cant be honest about how you look, why would anyone believe anything you say. But again never a reason to insult, maybe a reason not to trust them tho JMOwine
