I have been single for 12 years and have never lived with an intimate partner other than my ex-husband. I hear of people meeting and all of a sudden they are living together. Just curious is all.

I lived with my ex husband before we got married. But since then, no one has been brave enough to move in... hahaha joking. I haven't been in love since, but if it happens in the future, I'd give an open invitation to share my shack. I like living alone, but it can't beat having a companion.
The way I always saw it is I were to live with someone in that manner it would be like marrying them. I have never found anyone that I have felt I would want to go to that extreme again with.
I did date a man for about 5 months that was living with his ex-girlfriend and they were strictly platonic by that time and basically sharing rent. He has since moved on and moved in with a woman after about 6 months. He is the type that can remain friends with his ex's though.
I's just being funny. I'm almost impossible to offend. I'm actually shocked that more people haven't, or they're not fessing up. I don't think I know too many people that aren't or haven't lived together without being married.
I will say, on bad days I'm pissed off I gave up my house! lol
I'm open to being shacked up with. We might need to stay in a tent for a while though. Although I do have indoor plumbing! All you need to bring with you is a smile! I've been living in a shack for years! It can become permanent if you like. It lot's of fun! Come! Try it!

Oh yeah, forgot to add, that if you live with someone in Canada, I believe that its legally very similar to being married. However, there is that clause that what you bring into the relationship you now take out of it.
I can't speak from experience in such subjects, I've never shacked up with a woman for an extended period of time. I do have friends that have though. I was roomates with a buddy of mine, and he met this girl five days later she moved into the house and about three months later it went from a nice place to live to a bit on the hellish side. Eight months after that they had a little boy and they still fight like cats and dogs. I guess each to thier own and they can choose to do whatever but that seems like a whole lot of trouble to me. I belive you should know a person really well before making that choice or be married to them.
A WHOLE 5 days? LOL My second hubby and I...first date...he came over, said he would never spend the whole night nor be involved...he never left...well not for 8 more years anyhow!
