We have 5 years left before the world reverts to chaos. The USA is bankrupt, but it's too hard to admit. All the world still places its chips on fossil fuel, which is running out. The populations of oil producing countries is growing to an extent where they will have to keep their oil.
Suburbs will become wastelands, because there are no transit systems to the city work-place. Germany, Japan etc., have electric high-tech train systems, while North America is dismantling its rail routes.
The post war dream....Disneyland, a happy ending to our lives, is just that, a dream. We have created the machine that can't be shut down, yet this machine is our demise.
No one wants to hear the truth, but we all will experience it and soon. I won't even touch on the Global Warming issue.

Its going to be a bit like reverting to before the industrial revolution - I never did much like cities anyway - I too have been expecting this and liken it to money finally consuming itself - what a shame just as we have got all this communication stuff going - I hope it doesnt happen
I think survival is already the issue...when you have people choosing between heat and food in the winter...Those are both the very essence of survival....
yep, it looks like we have been living on credit quite long enough - doesnt me an the end of the world though, just a change in the financial ruling.
We made out before the industrial revolution - ok, so we didnt have electricty but oil isnt the only way to produce that and money neednt be the thing which keeps trade and agricultural systems running

gentlepaws: It's a matter of "Life-boat Ethics", if a life-boat was designed to sustain 10 people, and 12 made it into the boat, then 2 would have to die.
indeed, raw nature!! - dont know about ethics or morals in some of those situations though
Im glad I moved into the hills and away from the city - must get one of those books, food for free or living from the hedgerows, just in case
He's running about yelling "the sky is falling" because he believes the economy is plummeting, a depression is upon us, and the stock market is about to crash.
I sit back saying "I won't believe a word of it until I quit seeing a generation of 14 year olds walking around with an iPod on their hip, and iPhone in their ear, and brand name shoes on their feet."
girlnextdormouse: My friend and I have this conversation often.

Kids have never had it so good materially and I reckon these things have all got so readily available because of plastics, the very thing which we need to stop abusing - we cant have it both ways much longer - this throwaway society needs to realise just what its throwing out
last century when I was a kid there used to be repair shops all over the place, for tv's, other appliances, cars, furniture - everything was built to last but today its just the opposite and we are using up resources at an alarming rate but then they end up on the rubbish heap so we will buy new.
They have made it all very cheap to just replace things so at the same time as losing the repairmens skills we have also lost all the small retailers cos they cant compete.......

if that's the case, in five years, with my skills, I might be desirable!
