Ok guys and gals, I really need your advice on this one. Ok, here it goes. My daughter was born with a disease. When she was diagnosed with it, we were told by the hospital that she needed medicaid and that she could get SSI benefits. I had to go and apply for medcaid and SSI. I was denied because too much income was coming in, but we didn't make enough to cover her medical expenses and to by her medicines that she would have to have everyday. So I quit work and we got the benefits. What I don't understand is how can the government think that we made to much money when the medical bills exceeded way over the amount of income we had coming in? I don't think its fair of how the government is handling this. I know others that are in the same situation. This is putting a great strain on me and my family. How can the government think that middle class and lower class makes to much money if the bills exceed way over the amount of income coming in? I hope I make sense. I don't think that it is fair. Not if the medical bills exceed over the amount of money coming in.

But I do thank them for letting my daughter have medicaid, even if it did cost me in the end. At least she is taking care of.

Same sort of thing happens of here. My sister is about to become a single parent. She wants to go back to work but her child care is going to cost her 500 pounds a month. The government in the UK are encouraging single parents to go back to work but hardly any help with child care. She could stay home and claim benefits and it would cost the tax payer more than help with child care. Just doesn't make sensefrustrated

The system is so incredibly messed up! My sister split from her husband when she was 7 months pregnant with her third child (caught the bast*rd cheating) he refused to give her any money and she could do nothing about it until they went to court and it was ordered.

She went down to apply for benefits until her court date about 3 months, she was turned down because her car was valued at over 800 dollars... she wound up losing her house in foreclosure because they wouldn't give her short term assistance until the courts enforced childcare and alimony.doh

oh dear, dont get me started on this one..
As a lone parent in this Country I would be better off not working as I would receive free healthcare, allowances for school uniforms and books as well as help with bills if needed.

I also used to work for Local employment services and trying to convince people to take up employment when they would lose benefits was a losing battle.

I really don't know what to say either, I have always bashed our Government system.
I was in the same situation with my son.. when he left home at 18, I still had to pay for another 3 years to get all of his hospital bills paid off.

However... the Dr. or hospital you go to makes a lot of difference!!

Find the nearest University hospital!
they are federal funded and if you can't pay they will greatly reduce the bill or completely write it off because the federal Gov. pays them back.

I have never understood their reasoning. We were just $20 over and they wanted to cut it out.
