Our mind is like the water in a pond
rippled by thoughts and emotions ;

The tranquility and peace which evades us
found when calm waters are crystal clear;

The happiness and pleasure we seek in life
which is why one does the worldy exercise ;

Its here with us as always it was
right here in the present moment ;

All we have is the now and here
and everything lies in the present moment.

This is what i inferred from a prayer which intended to calm the mind ..

Does on live in the present moment or is there a need for futuristic thinking or planning ??

what else can it be? I can access memories of yesterday (not as many as I used to though laugh ) and visions of tomorrow, they are not reality, though they might have been and might be later. NOW is the only time we have... don't waste it devil

or a worse tomorrow! ... when tomorrow may never come ... that is indeed a conundrum confused

why do birds fly south instead of just staying in the middle temperate zones? because then they wouldn't be flying so much and no longer be a bird or need wings, maybe this is how evolution is?

Where else can anything be?

The past, and future only exists as thought forms in our mind. If we allow ourselves to become too entangled in those thought forms, then we miss the only thing that matters....this moment.

Then why do people plan and work for the future their entire lives if the present is what matters.

It is better to suffer for a few years to make the rest blissful. Nothing is certain in this world ( success or failure), but, i would rather do something to decrease my chances of failure. No pain, no gain.

A monetary example: look at it this way, when a man dies right after he invests in a some prosperous venture, he may not enjoy the fruits, but, his children are sure to live a life free of financial hardships.
Some people are born with money, because someone before them, went through a few hurdles.

Regarding love, i'm not ready to suffer again. cool

This moment - I don't want to be in because the reality causes me pain ......... to take the hurt away .... its sometimes best to look forward when things change and evolve.

Al .. you know what i meant.
This meditation prayer inferred ... " the kingdom of god is in the now " and all happiness is in the present.

If we were to follow this .. most of our activities which are planned towards a future will carry no meaning.

thumbs up

People say they live for the moment. I believe some say that because they have given up and the rest because they believe whatever good/productive thing they do this minute, could influence the next one. It's all a plan and a plan involves a future, no matter how small and insignificant they make it sound. *It being the future*

thumbs up

Plan like you'll live forever, but live like there's no tomorrow.head banger

Hopes, dreams and plans for the future may never come to fruition, but without them, what's the point in all the toiling we do today.

AH!!! but, what is this need for 'future-meaning'? hmmm and it is still now.

What if a rock slide drops in your head in the middle of your plans for the future, would that make now less meaningful? it would certainly make your future less meaningful (if thats even possible to assess)

you know what I mean .. kiss

I feel its a plan too . If everything were in the present and one could actually accpet that in toto .. that would lead to a sort of contentment and yes .. that could mean absolute happiness.

But the fact that every min we live with conscious or subconscious desire , plan or aspiration for another moment in tomm ..its never in the present entirely.

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' Matthew 6:25-31(NIV)
