If so, how do you get started?
Where do you get the best information?

Yes, I know Google it.........but there's so much info.......my head is spinning!!!

I'm getting a late start in this............my son is 13.....long history I'm not going to go into on the forums, but he has asked about my home schooling him. I'm considering it, however school starts around the corner(15 days) and from every thing I'm reading we were supposed to start records on the 1st of July???

If anyone is home schooling and would be willing to talk to me about this would love it !!!

Thanks so much!

I used a cover school called VAST Network here in N. Alabama...they are a christian based school...your cover school that you choose is the best place to set you up on books and they will let you know all the requirements for your state thumbs up as every state and city even have different requirements professor

ok here i will show my stupidity.........what is a cover school?
we're not affiliated with any church here .........and we're not doing this for any religous reason.

most of the places i saw online were affiliated with some type of religious group, but surely that's not the only way to home school a child?uh oh

A cover school is one way to homeschool...they help you make sure you meet the requirements, etc....

No, you don't have to be affiliated with any church to homeschool. I homeschooled my boys because they are special needs kids, it was the best for them.

Just google homeschool cover schools and it should get you up to speed thumbs up

Regulations vary from state to state. I would recommend you inquire with the dept. of education in your state or google homeschool in your state for a support system.
When I homeschooled, there was no educational requirements for the "teacher". We didn't have to follow the school calendar as long as I documented 180 days of activity. There was also no standardized curriculum. Scary, huh? In some states you have to be licensed to home school.
It's a huge responsibility, but well worth the effort if your local schools are failing your kids. (I mean failing as in letting down, not flunking them out.)

Good luck!

Last year, I began homeschooling my 13 year old son due to an ice hockey injury. It has worked out very well for us. There is flexibility, but it does require structure and discipline.

We use California Virtual Academy. They provide a really great and easy to follow program called k-12. We have a teacher that we are in constant contact with and his progress is monitered.

I found a link through our website for a school that I think is in your area:

or

Homeschooling can be a bit isolating, so it's important to maintain a social life. My son has several friends that he sees almost daily and is back to playing ice hockey. Also, make sure that you have a little break fom each other...(my son goes to his dad's every weekend...lol)..otherwise it can be very difficult to work together.

Hope this helps...Good Luck to you!!
