The_Kansan: Just curious - and I know I'll go down in flames for this, but here goes - Why do you insist on quoting famous people for your arguments, are you incapable of original thought? Or is it that you think because somone famous said it, it somehow holds more truth than if "Joe Average" had said it?
If some one has said what you want to already and done so eloquently why try to rewrite it?? As for quoting famous people , I quote other’s as well (although far fewer survive the sands of time and those that do a usually refereed to as anonymous) it is just common courtesy to name the original author
HondoLaneNJ: Thats IT! You folks made me hungry....I'm goin to get a bacon/egg/cheese bagel....I'm printing this page out and giving it to my doctor...blaming you all!
There go'es my cardiac diet, right out the bloody window!!!

If you know what you want to say, why not just say it instead of relying upon others to do your talking for you? And if you have to rely upon quotes, anonymous or otherwise, to convey "your" ideas and thoughts, what's the point of speaking up in the first place?
"I am more likely to be swayed by those who present their own rational arguments, than by those who must parrot others to do so, no matter how profound the quoted statement." - The Kansan
(For every quote you can come up with for your side of things, I could come up with an equally profound quote to refute it, but I prefer, for the most part, to do my own thinking.)
Have a nice day - I've got to get back to being a productive member of the household.

I don’t rely on them I just like using them

Firstly I dont have to parrot anyone ,Secondly you should be swayed by the content of the argument NOT the author
The_Kansan: I prefer, for the most part, to do my own thinking.)

You must like using them a helluva' lot, because I seldom see anything original from you.
crotalus_p: Firstly I dont have to parrot anyone ,Secondly you should be swayed by the content of the argument NOT the author
Firstly, if you don't have to, then why do you? Secondly, I will be swayed by the content of your argument if/when the words are yours, every bit as much as I would be swayed by the person you are quoting if I were debating with them. Otherwise, I'm not debating with you, but whomever you choose to quote. To answer the question "Why should I agree with you?" with "Because of something that Ben Franklin (Einstein, Wordsworth, etc...) said that I agree with!" is not an answer, but an evasion.
The Kansan: I prefer, for the most part, to do my own thinking.
crotalus_p: then it would be fair to say that you seldom read my posts
No need. I already own a book of famous quotations.
Ok, I'll quit picking on you now! I've got a floor to finish building and a storage structure to put up and, like the man said, "It ain't gonna' finish it'self!"
The_Kansan: Thing is, the problem isn't that they are/were "God fearing." The problem is that they were not/are not mankind respecting . This applies to "non-believers" as well.
I'll just add that it is up to us. Everything is. Nobody has the right to blame God or a supposed God for the mess in our world.

Thats exactly what I was saying - it suits politicians et al to keep people in subservience and subjected to a 'higher power' keep the peasants doffing their caps and promise em their rewards in heaven, was the order of the day for many long years and was perpetuated not just by the clerics but the politicians too...... they went along with each other in their mutually beneficial quest.
We, I believe, have begun (200 yrs or so) to see a semblance of "mankind respecting" ethics growing within society but it isnt coming from either the politicos or the god fearing - it is bubbling up in secular ethics and myriad places where individuality and freethinking are encouraged over subservience................
