A wise person said that recognizing a hero, or anyone you admire, is recognizing part of yourself.

For those of you who would like to know, there is a true hero in this very group. I will not embarass that person, but if you look up the word in the dictionary, that person's picture is there.

My hero? Probably my son. When another kid at school is down or needs a friend, he's the first one in line - even if that kid was nasty to him just a few hours before. He's the first one to forgive and forget wrongs done to him, how many of us could say the same? I'd like to be more like that.

When he was about 12, a little first-grade girl at the YMCA day camp he was in was really whiney and demanding, and no one wanted to be around her (including the staff!). He always sat by her, included her, shared his lunch and snacks with her. Some of the staff thought they were a little TOO close, so they sat him down and asked why he hung around her so much. He told them he didn't really like her either, but he buddied-up with her because he didn't want her to be alone, and it didn't matter to him if it made him a little more of a target for the older kids. To him, it was worth it. Her feelings were more important to him than his own. To me, that's heroic.

It's a toss up (NOOOOoooo NOT a TOSS OFF) ... It's a toss up between Captain James Tiberius Kirk the scourge of Alpha Centari and Captain Jack Sparrow the scourge of the Carribean ... I think it was his stepping off his sinking ship in Pirates of the Carribean
