Some one told Oprah Winfrey that they were colour blind. I loved Oprah's answer; Oh your colour blind? I can see cleary that your white.
Many years ago while living in California a black man wanted to date me. We dated a little I told him that I would not be able to stand it when people would be staring and pointing fingers. It would hurt me too much, if I cared about him. At that time is was indeed a rare sighting to see a black man and a white woman or visa versa. (Where in the 70th. here) My sister having married a Indo,(half Dutch, half Indonesier), was furious at me. You asked him for dinner etc. The thing was he understood me very well. Today I would feel different but it is another time now, or is it? There will always be people frowning about a mixed couple I know. How do you feel about it?
desmond: For me race does not matter it is what the person is all about that matters to me
Same here and being Native I date outside my race all the time...and for those who like to stare...I can stare just as good back....It makes no difference to me...if some bigotted idiots don't like the thought or site of it...then that's just too bad....cause I could really care less.....

Yes today I agree with you whole heartly Desmond. When/if I would have fallen in love this many years ago, I would not have been strong enough to cope witn all the negativetly from others. People staring, pointing fingers, how hurtful for the man I would love. So I did not let it get it any further at that time.
Not that long ago I dated a native man a few times, broke it off only because he was only 56, to much differents in age.

I agree with you in collage I met and hang out with a lady that was a different race and one day she told me that she was attracted to me and would love to date me but she could not because her father will kill her

Yes...me too and it's funny you mention that because the Natives here experience just that...based n stereo-types and when I meet people and tell them I'm Native they very often say to me..."OHHHHHHH you don't look native"....OR the proverbial..."well you sound sooooooooo educated "...I used to get...like all natives aren't educated....and the truth is..I'm not that well educated...I only have 2 years of college...but I have a lot of life experience....So yes...I see judgment all the time....based on who people think we are...NOT who we are as individuals.....and I still haven't figured out just what the standard Native is suppose to look like either.....

Today Shelly I would no longer care either. I am stronger today when it would be about staring etc. You also know there is still race'sm even today. I worked, while living in L.A. with many blacks. They would discuss about their race with me very openly. I have always wondered about this, why with me? Because I was European?

Oh of course I know...we have it right here in Canada and I see it all the time....It's more hidden than it used to be...but when there are certain issues raised you see it come to the forefront...you see in the justice system and all over the place....

It is sad people judge because of race and think they know who you are not because of who you are and what you stand for and until that changes our world will not change

I know and it's surprising just how much of it still exists because of people's ignorance....and I agree...it certainly needs to start with individuals for the much needed changes in this world....
Color should not matter, though with some it does. Even when it has nothing to do with them. The world would be so much better if we had fewer small minds.

desmond: Very well said
And thank you too sir
I mentioned this the other day or yesterday, tracing the mitochdrial DNA( passed down from the female) researchers have found that we all go back to a single female from Africa about 100,000 years ago. So technically we all have African ancestry.
I watched a show on PBS television awhile back, it was about ancestry. They traced the roots of Oprah, Chris Rock, I think Morgan Freeman and several other celebrities(African) and they all had caucasian blood(genetics) also.
I mean, even 2 glasses of water setting next to each other for 100,000 years are bound to share a few molecules sooner or later.
The sooner we could all realise that we are all humans/earthlings and get over it, the sooner we could start focusing on something that is actually important.
There is always more things some do to discriminate against people. When it's not color , then its a crippled person, or someone who is a burn victim, people always find things to look down on someone. That is something I just don't understand.
