soulmateTWS: My husband and I are close friends with a couple of guys that both own businesses that sell guns ((all types)) and ammo...and yes, the price of most guns hand guns, assault rifles, and ammo have significantly risen in our area as well...When I asked them why, their answers differed, but neither one said anything about China... Their reasons had to with the incoming crew in the White House...
Although the increasing price of guns doesn't really concern me that much...I have several hand guns, and don't see the reason for buying another...However,the price of ammo does bother me, since I enjoy target practicing, and like to keep each pistol's clip fully loaded...and the spare clips too...
thumbs up me too

There are qualifiers; kids can't purchase guns, I don't think. Felons are banned I believe. And I think since Robert's a liberal...they wouldn't let him have one.

No, the NRA offered a bunch of free ones to me - but as a condition they wanted to use my image on a poster and direct mailings. uh oh

zeelanderer: seems gun sales are way up with fear that the incoming government is going to try to ban certain guns and hi-cap mags. I for one ordered 2 new black guns, 2 handguns, 20 mags and 5000 rounds of ammo for starters. I am going to be making a killing on the gun market next year.

Zee

Actually the gun bans won't come for another year or two Zee. But my friends at ATFE hinted that there is a 300% FET (Federal Excise Tax) increase planned to start in Jan 2009. Followed by another 200% increase the following year. Banning guns is hard. Raising the cost of ammunition to $10.00 a bullet is simple. They will just tax firearms out of the affordability range of the common man. Once the ammo supple cries up, I'd suggest investing in reloading equipment. Thank you to all the Obama voters out there! Way to go...

Umm Vonney, firearms are all but banned in England and Australia (except things like hunting shotguns which don't make for good use in crime since they're so bulky), yet their violent crime rate is astronomical. All people would do if you could snap your fingers and make firearms disappear would be to make (and use) improvised weapons (pipes, clubs, chains, etc...) to commit crime. And for your edification, the most commonly used edged weapon used in assaults in America is the humble screwdriver, available for $3.99 at any 7-11 (open 24/7/365). Even better, the don't jam, run out of ammunition, are quiet (except for the victims screams) and are very effective at punching vicious, deep holes in the victim. Incidentally, kitchen forks are #2 (best of all, felons can carry both of these without fear of legislation or restriction based upon their vocational calling. Forks make ghastly wounds by the way...

Maybe we need to ban both of these god awful weapons of mass destruction. And how many people are killed (accidentally, negligently, and intentionally) with cars each year? I'm writing congress! See criminals are criminals because they don't follow the law. There will always be purloined military weapons available on the black market that were discarded, stolen, or abandoned by militaries from countries all over the world. Don't believe me? I worked in a prison for seven years. The inmates had no access to firearms, yet still they created improvised weapons to use on both staff and fellow prisoners. Wake up and smell the coffee.

zeelanderer: Actually ammo is going up faster than silver or gold. A lot of ammo has tripples in price over the past year because China is buying the metals up.

Zee

China was buying the metals (especially lead) because they have been building several huge dams and needed it for the wiring. Also, the ongoing war in the middle east has cause many of the military ammunition contract providers (every notable US ammunition manufacturer) to divert the majority of their production lots to selling to Uncle Sam, rather than John Q. Public...

Yes people who have a violent nature will find a way to act on that anyway they can. But does that mean that it should be made easier for them by making weapons legal?

What I can't understand is why - just because someone doesn't like something - it's okay for it to be done away with, regardless of whom else might like it.

I've never used my guns in an irresponsible manner and yet people want to take them away from me. Why?

I'll tell ya what -- I don't like Thai food - it gives me (and thousands of others!) horrendous heartburn - let's ban Thai food, okay?

You know what else? I don't ride a motorcycle and can't see any earthly good in them - most of 'em are loud and they're hard to see in a rear-view mirror and (evidently) easy to fall off of and get hurt - let's ban motorcycles.

While we're at it, let's ban cars that have a top speed of more than 30 miles per hour. There's no reason to have them, you can go just as far at 30 mph as you can at 70 mph, and I'll bet not nearly as many people would get killed every year on the highways and by-ways of the world.

And let's ban speed boats, too! I don't own one and can't see any earthly reason for their existance other than to throw up a huge wake that makes it more difficult to keep my canoe upright.

And let's ban matches and cigarette lighters! I can start a fire with flint & steel and bowdrill, fireglass and fire piston - Surely if I don't need matches or lighters, no one else does either, right?

And let's ban electric lights! I have candle lanterns and the ability to make my own lanterns and candles, so what good could electric lights POSSIBLY be for anyone else?

...I could go on and on about the things that I could live without and it wouldn't make much difference to me, but might to the rest of the world. But I was guaranteed by the constitution of my country the right to keep and, if necessary, bear arms and it is a right that I will not willingly give up, no matter who fails to understand why.

Firearms are a part of my heritage and a means of procuring food, passing time and, if necessary, a tool of defense of my family and personal property and I am not going to toss them in the creek just because someone can't understand that they're every bit as much a part of me as is my own name...

You enjoying the popcorn ?

I am not going to get into an argument over this, it is something that people feel very strongly about about. I have not grown up around fire arms and know nothing about them. I was simply trying to figure out why people would want them.
