vonney:
You enjoying the popcorn ?I am not going to get into an argument over this, it is something that people feel very strongly about about. I have not grown up around fire arms and know nothing about them. I was simply trying to figure out why people would want them.

I thought I explained that with this:

The Kansan: Firearms are a part of my heritage and a means of procuring food, passing time and, if necessary, a tool of defense of my family and personal property...

Do I need to elaborate even more?

The_Kansan: What I can't understand is why - just because someone doesn't like something - it's okay for it to be done away with, regardless of whom else might like it.

I've never used my guns in an irresponsible manner and yet people want to take them away from me. Why?

I'll tell ya what -- I don't like Thai food - it gives me (and thousands of others!) horrendous heartburn - let's ban Thai food, okay?

You know what else? I don't ride a motorcycle and can't see any earthly good in them - most of 'em are loud and they're hard to see in a rear-view mirror and (evidently) easy to fall off of and get hurt - let's ban motorcycles.

While we're at it, let's ban cars that have a top speed of more than 30 miles per hour. There's no reason to have them, you can go just as far at 30 mph as you can at 70 mph, and I'll bet not nearly as many people would get killed every year on the highways and by-ways of the world.

And let's ban speed boats, too! I don't own one and can't see any earthly reason for their existance other than to throw up a huge wake that makes it more difficult to keep my canoe upright.

And let's ban matches and cigarette lighters! I can start a fire with flint & steel and bowdrill, fireglass and fire piston - Surely if I don't need matches or lighters, no one else does either, right?

And let's ban electric lights! I have candle lanterns and the ability to make my own lanterns and candles, so what good could electric lights POSSIBLY be for anyone else?

...I could go on and on about the things that I could live without and it wouldn't make much difference to me, but might to the rest of the world. But I was guaranteed by the constitution of my country the right to keep and, if necessary, bear arms and it is a right that I will not willingly give up, no matter who fails to understand why.

Firearms are a part of my heritage and a means of procuring food, passing time and, if necessary, a tool of defense of my family and personal property and I am not going to toss them in the creek just because someone can't understand that they're every bit as much a part of me as is my own name...
Quite an interesting Device,that "Fire-Piston"wave

Yep! Sure is. Wish I could find the documentation to discover exactly who invented it and when. I know it goes back to at least 16th century Europe, but there are also those who think it was spontaneously developed in the Phillipines using bamboo. With the close tolerances required to make it work, I somehow doubt it, but stranger things have happened. dunno

In some cases the car was used as a weapon to commit murder.... does one murder make it too many? I have protected myself by pulling my handgun out of it's holster, yet never fired a shot. No one was maimed or killed.

It has been shown that crime does decrease when conceal carry laws are enacted. Criminals look for the weak victim. When concealed carry is allowed criminals now don't know who is carrying and are less likely to take the chance of being killed themselves.

A couple years ago the City of San Francisco banned all guns within their city limits..... within days that city broke their record for gun related murders. Criminals now had no fear of law-abiding citizens.

zeelanderer: seems gun sales are way up with fear that the incoming government is going to try to ban certain guns and hi-cap mags. I for one ordered 2 new black guns, 2 handguns, 20 mags and 5000 rounds of ammo for starters. I am going to be making a killing on the gun market next year.

I have never shot or killed anyone.... are there still gun related murders in Australia with the nation wide ban on all guns? What about knife murders? are you willing to give up your steak knife? How about murder in general? are you willing to give up your life because people commit murder? with no more people there will be no more murders.... woo hoo...

Good luck in getting that buck. I have seen quite a few nice bucks that were taken this year. I haven't had much luck either, but there is always this weekend.
