Whole lot more water .... yes so grab your passport and come and see how the other half of the world live, experience their history, culture, languages, everything....... after all Europeans travel to the states and bring in huge tourist dollars.... widen your horizons and experiences you will love it.....
Sorry but driving in the US is a nightmare long straight roads and going round in squares... often depending on the state with little to see out the window....

And many, many Americans do travel abroad and they do bring in huge tourist dollars as well. Let's go back to the previous comment... 24% of Americans have passports. That's roughly 75 million people. 75 million! Considering that those passports are generally needed for long-haul travel (across the Atlantic or Pacific), that's a pretty sizeable amount of people who are indeed widening their horizons and experiences. I'm just not getting your point here. Kansan was absolutely right; you DO have to consider the land mass....and consider time, also. If an American is going to travel to Europe, he or she would want to make the most of their journey and ideally have enough time to see as much as possible. We wouldn't just add 2 days to a weekend and have a 3-night get-away in Italy or France or wherever. But Europeans CAN do this because they can get to a different country so much more quickly. Anyway, there are many factors that should be considered and you can't fairly compare Americans with Europeans on this issue. It's not a level playing field.
Driving in the U.S. is a nightmare??? Really????? Somehow, it just seems that you are prepared to criticize everything about us.

Ah! Couldn't see the forest for all the trees in the way. Too bad! You missed quite alot.
My horizons are already wider than you could imagine and I think I'll keep them that way. Frankly I'd rather go to the island or jungle in your other thread...
Kansan I take my hat of to you if home is where the heart is and you are happy there but maybe the US Government should remember this when they steam roll into ever political situation and other countries...
Scots shaped modern day America and a great deal of the rest of the world......
A scot invented the following.......
Continuous electric light Television Telephone Fax Machine the dollar bill modern day banking...... cash credit, retail banking etc the microwave Antiseptics Penicillin Computer games the rain coat Parraffin Radar Quinine Hypodermic syringes Ultra sound scanners Beta Blockers Postage stamps Bicycles Colour photography Wave powred generators Telescopes
and not forgetting marmalade and lime corodial and that the US Navy was founded by a Scot.....
Nope that was all invented by Aleksander Popov of Leningrad.
I am not having a go ..... I asked what the difference was between the nations.... seems that takiing things personally is one.
I live in Greece because of my job.....I work at our embassy here, as I did in South Korea and Afghanistan and here before as well. And when I leave here in 2 years, I will go to yet another country. I love the opportunities and experiences that my work provides and I, too, am a huge proponent of expanding horizons. Travel is indeed mind-broadening and humbling; in my life, I have traveled to about 35 countries, lived in 5 of them. I have learned so much -- about others, and about myself -- through my travels. But, it's just a matter of reality...not everyone has the same means, opportunity, time, or money.
Do I take what you have written personally? Not in the least. I don't know you, you don't know me. I won't lose a moment's sleep. In fact, it's all rather impersonal, not personal. I simply call it as I see it. And my previous comment still stands. Nothing personal.

I've made it a habit to be at home where ever I am.
As to the other, I guess maybe you should be talking to the government about that. Other than proudly serving in the military when I was younger and having dinner once with Bob Dole, I have very little to do with the U.S. Government. (Although a buddy of mine called the other day to tell me that he'd been duly elected as a trustee of his local township, which is funny because he never even knew he was running for that position.)
Ya' learn something new every day, Bob! Everything of merit was invented in Scotland except the one thing that most think of when they think of Scotland! Who'd a thunk it?
