What is the difference between Europeans etc and Americans keeping in mind that most Americans have European/African etc heritage?

Why do Europeans have more style?

laugh I think your going to find a lot of Americans will take exception to this comment.... I don´t think it has anything to do with having more or less "style" rather a different sense of style.

I think the problems with the stereotypes and the laws, not the actual people.

To be fair though, Europe, because its a larger mass of land and many seperate countries under their own rules and cultures that have existed for a millennia, is always going to be more diverse than America.

I think it's all boils down to diversity.

It doesn't mean that diversity doesn't exist in America, but it's one country; many people grow up the same way, learn the same history, and have same outlooks as their forefathers, and as such they're influenced by less diverse cultural factors, outlooks and taboos than Europe as a whole is.

America is definately one of the most diverse countries in the world, and in many part's you'll find an acceptance of that diversity you wouldn't find anywhere else in the world.

It's just that its not as quickly noticeable because everyone's not split into seperate countries with easily identifiable names. I mean for instance, I'm from Ireland... but I'm not a heavy drinker, and I can pronounce my words properly. *laughs*

I guess I don't understand your point. My ancestors were Scots Irish, but my family has been in America for nearly 200 years and I've never thought of myself as anything but American - Indeed, I agree with Teddy Roosevelt when he said "In this country there is no room for hyphenated Americanism." - I guess being an American or anything but a Scot is supposed to imply that we're somehow inferior? (I'm not taking the offense that the previous sentence would seem to imply.)

How many of those things on your list were actually invented/founded/conceived in Scotland? How many were invented/founded/conceived after the person had immigrated/moved somewhere else?

The (former) planet Pluto was discovered by a man from my home state of Kansas, but I can't remember what his heritage was and never realized that it mattered.

I guess I just don't understand your point... dunno

Some of my best friends are Americans by the way largely of the internet type but one or two have actually travlled to Sri Lankan to say hi to me and thats no mean feat in cash or time.

Hi to UKSLB.... nice to meet you .... great point about travel.... here in Europe we all now have a pink Eu passport from whatever individual country but shows we are in the EU giving us easier access to travel and the euro makes life easy......

We also have great, very cheap, easy to access air travel.

Was in your country when it was Ceylon and loved it..... your country is really one worth visitinghandshake

When the country you live in is roughly 1,500 miles by 3,000 miles in size then needing a passport becomes a moot point.

I've driven more than 2 million miles through the U.S., Canada and Mexico and never needed a passport.

It would be nice to live in Europe where one could conceivably drive through 10 different countries in 2 days, but I'll admit that it's kinda' nice to live in the U.S. where it might take a day and a half to drive across one state.

To say that "Europeans travel, Americans don't" isn't exactly accurate. True, the majority of Americans have never traveled abroad, but when traveling to another country is as easy as traveling from state to state here in the U.S., then it doesn't really count as "traveling."

And I'm not taking issue with the point of the post, merely showing that travel is a matter of perspective and the size/location of a country should be taken into account. (There's a whole lot more water between the U.S. and, say, Italy, than there is between France and Italy.)

handshake
