nomindgames: Jenny I can relate,I was an organ donor upon death as well as on registry for 9 yrs. to donate bone marrow.I also was a vip donor for Red Cross.Made me feel I was giving in some way.I am now diabetic,so all down the drain However I still am having my organs harvested for med students for training. If you are able please donate upon your death,it's like part of you will live on.I worked in a hospital and I saw the joy of someone getting to live because someone gave something when they didn't need it anymore.Be someones hero please.
One reason I had to put this on this forum is too draw attention to the need for organ donor's. By life or by death it is all wanted and needed badly.
I sometimes give too; "Operation Eye Sight" long after you have given and really had forgotten about it, you receive a message that mr/mrs so and so, can now see thanks to your donation. Wow!
hollandgirl: I had asked to be put on the list for; "Donating a kidney to a stranger list: Received an phone call this morning. Because of having high blood presure, I do not qualify as it may affect the kidney. What a bummer!
Wow! What an honourable thing for you to consider! I have never thought about donating an organ while I'm still alive, but I'm listed as a donar when I die. I try to donate blood every time I go home, although, they can only use my plasma since I've had malaria in the past. I'm not sure if this would prevent me from organ donation? I should look into that.

Did I forget what else could be "harvested" Wished I could look into the future to see how far we will have come in the next ten-20 years. Any idea'a anyone? Anything you wished to see happening in the future?

I have decided to not donate anything before my kid(s) has been born and grown to adult age, as I think we could need all "spare parts" within the family.
My body is already signed to the common good when I pass. Which reminds me, I should change the writing there to let my wife have a say over the use as well.

You have a good heart. Donating organs saves lives. It's a really good thing to do.

Thats wonderful! At least you tried. You have to do whats right for your own body also. I applaud you. Im a B- which is one of the lesser prevalent blood types so I give like crazy. You never know when they will need that type. Thsts nothing compared to an organ donation.

My blood type is a common one but for the same reason HB can no longer give blood. I thought to of donating bone marrow but again too old. I would prefer to give a kidney as having bone marrow removed is very very painful and I am not good at tolerating a lot of pain. It looks like only stemcells are left.??? I do believe that in the future a lot of body parts could be re-used. Like limps. Well at least I can leave my body to science after I am dead. See even when dead we can be good for something.
Good thread Jenny! I donate blood 2 times a year, am on the national bone marrow registry, and organ donor designated on my driver's license.
You're right to be bring attention to this serious matter. My brother received a liver transplant - without the generousity of the donor, he wouldn't have had the time he had with his 2 children. He has since passed due to rejection complications - however, the time he was given was well used.
