livinglarge: The thought was there J,
thats the good thing ,
at least your intentions were good
True, but it does not much good to the one person in need of a kidney. I was told this morning bringing this to the attention of others was the next best thing. This is what I did, lol I see twice. Did not mean to do this but what the heck..........? No real harm done eh?

DazzleYou: Yep, High BP can cause a myriad of complications....especially some high bp meds.
But the alternative of not regulating your BP is far worse.
I know I am just disappointed. It is the same reason I can not donate blood. I am now checking into donating bone marrow. Do you think/know if the same applies? No, if having high BP?
I chose to donate a kidney as it seemed less painfull as having bone marrow extracted as I have read this is very very painful. I am no hero when it comes to pain. No donor for bone marrow if having high BP?

I signed up to be a bone marrow donor after my daughter's good friend & my high school friend's son (same person) passed away from lieukemia (sp?). Haven't been called yet.
I am not a transplant specialist so I can't really advise one way or the other. I know BP affects your ability to donate in a lot of areas including eyes, lungs, etc.
For two reasons....one, a subject with High BP tends to have abnormal blood circulation in the capillaries and smaller arteries that often supply blood to such organs.
For example, a person with high BP often site bulging feelings in the eyes when their BP is at its highest.
I don't know about bone marrow though. It seems that High BP would not affect bone marrow as I know it.

Thank you Dazzlw will now need to inquire about that. I know my heart is good and strong if that helps? Bummer I must be good for something and I mean before my dead, as that is another 30 years away. (my first plan, to pass my mom she died at 94 1/2)

CjTenorSax: I am sorry you got such disappointing news. I know it is important to you to help.
Life is full of disapointing news. (good news too and that gives the balance) Now find out I can not even be a bone marrow donor. If you have given blood you can give until 71 years of age so here I would fly just under the radar. If, however you have not been allowed to give blood, the cut off date is 60+ One thing left is stem cells.
Boy sounds I am good for not much until I die lol. Who knows what all can be used and needed in 30 years eh? Maybe limps? Hope and plan to be around to find out.

My brain maybe can be used by others in 30 years, could be? Your eyes may be bad for you but perfect for the patient. Now the same maybe good for the brain, good for someone else that is.
Look how far we have come since the first heart transplant in Africa by Doctor Benard was it? How many years ago that this took place not that long ago really.

My mother has given blood since the war, three times a year and was horrified when she was turned away when she hit 70, she kept asking what was now wrong with her blood that had been good enough for the last 45 odd years.
Jenny I can relate,I was an organ donor upon death as well as on registry for 9 yrs. to donate bone marrow.I also was a vip donor for Red Cross.Made me feel I was giving in some way.I am now diabetic,so all down the drain However I still am having my organs harvested for med students for training. If you are able please donate upon your death,it's like part of you will live on.I worked in a hospital and I saw the joy of someone getting to live because someone gave something when they didn't need it anymore.Be someones hero please.

She never did get a satisfactory answer
Yes that would have hurt me too and I believe they owned her an explaination for sure. 45 years is an very long time! The good thing about donating is also knowing your health is okay.
