I understand where you're coming from. I saw a thread the other night from a lady asking if people thought she was pretty. I resplied to her thread telling her I thought she was a lovely lady.Later that very same evening she sent me an email of why she had asked that question.
It's seems to me that the ones who are asking these questions seem to have low self-esteem issues and just want to hear some encouragement is all. What some people may find to be a silly or annoying question just may be very important to the ones asking these questions. Maybe they were verbally abused from someone they were with in a relationship or came from an abusive home.
We really don't know the circumstances.
I volunteered in the school district from which I live and saw alot of abused children from K thru 12th grade who didn't have the best of rollmodels or homelife for that matter.I try to make allowances for those kinds of thread questions cause who knows we may just save a life.Alot of those people may not know what/who to turn to seek help.

Yes it's true that if people don't love themselves first and foremost then how can they expect someone else to love them or see them in a certain light.I used to be like that for along until I learned to love myself and accept myself for who and what I was. I always seemed to seek reasurance from people on whether I was good enough looking,a good person etc etc. I had low self-esteem issues too.And I'm not afraid to admit that maybe I still do.Cause they're still times when I don't think I'm qutie worthy of having certain things in my life.Then I come to terms with my feelings and tell myself that I shouldn't be feeling this way.Maybe I'm an attention getter too.
I don't like to assume anything about someone but maybe those people weren't taught/told to do that as a child. And the cycle continues.I'm not making excuses for anyone cause some people are attention getters as someone else stated.
