How many of you on here genuinely know what your background heritage is made up of...and not just "heinz 57" but actually know what your heritage is comprised of?...

And what out of that cultural mix..are you very appreciative of?

I have traced mine back one thousand years. I am thankful for my Indian heritage for the animal spirit, the sweat lodges, the great spirit, the great sayings like, "Don't judge a man until you have walked a mile in his moccasins. I like the English heritage for all the nobility and my Catholic heritage. 500 years of being Catholic if that don't screw you up I don't know what will, lol? My black heritage; "Just another attempt by whitey to keep the brother down". My German heritage of proud craftmanship. I am one big tangled ball like you posted. No wonder I am tied up in knots all the time, lol.

Family search dot org by the mormons is a great start. If you can get four generations back then you can ususally connect through other's work. Roots web dot com by ancestory dot com has much help. Gen trees and circles are good too. It is addictive though just want to warn. It csan be fun. Arguing about grandmothers ten generations back can get totally insane, lol.

You are welcome. It is a real struggle to learn about the maternal lineage. So many times they were just called relics. Geez, imagine having that on your tombstone. The collaboration between surnames that attach to yours helps a lot. They can become just as interesting as your own because actually they are part of your own.

all I know is I'm scot/irish

I don't know my birthdad (vague memory of what he looked like), and Mom refused to keep pics, or let us in...
Have no idea wether he's alive...ever tried to contact us (mom made him sign his rights over and never contact us...)

Used to want to know..not sure I really do now. Sorta feels bad when yoy have parents that can't be botherd...

and, I believe it cost quite alot to get the lineage done...?

It can cost a lot. Professional geneaologists make big bucks. But you can get a lot by yourself if you can get a good start.
