You need only to hang out with a teen or young person for an hour. While my son was in college, he would tell me that he "bombed" a final. I thought that meant he did poorly. When in fact it meant he had gotten an "A" and it was easy.
When he first started college, he said "God Mom it's like a sausage fest around here." I was soon informed that meant there weren't many girls.
