Tater: government is what messed everything up, so Obama's solution is lets make government bigger... So common sense tell me the mess will be bigger....

What, add another department to the Bureaucracy? How about the
Department for Homeland Health?

Guess that will have to wait until a hospital gets flattened by a terrorist...doh

Again....spend billions and billions of tax payers money supporting a war, when the MISSION ACCOMPLISHED banner was hung, but don't spend billion of dollars helping America get on it's feet, again. Does that make sense to anyone??

Spend hundreds of billions of tax dollars on a war that was based on lies...but hold back trying to help the economy, putting people back to work.

The only thing wrong with our healthcare system is the governments involvement in it. For example.....if a patient who is on medicaid or "welfare" comes to the ER, it doesn't matter what charges they incurr, the hospital charges the patient what every patient is charged. However; since they are medicaid patients the government only pays a percentage of what is owed. The hospital eats the rest. The same holds true for medicare patients. The same situation occurs in pre-hospital emergency medical serivices. It's a HUGE problem, but hell if I have the answer and I've been in healthcare for nearly 25 years. I bet Obama's got the solution though....I mean with all that community activist experience and all LOL....sorry, sorry. Had to say it.
I will say this though......I am a paramedic. I recieved a letter last week from one of our national organizations. There is, in fact a meeting scheduled for May of this year I think for our EMS representatives to meet with Obamas staff to discuss the issues. THAT is promising.

Hi Bodhi!
I always enjoy your wit.

I think that it is an exciting time. Our new president actually wants to hear from the people. Dare I say that he seems to want to put WE THE PEOPLE's interests ahead of the Corperations?!!

I think he is going to be kinda like a dictator, I think that he believes in his mind that he should be able to do what ever he wants and congress shouldn't question his judgements, and that's scary......JMO

And what is with him naming CZARS for everything.. the word doesn't seem to fit in a (democracy) IMO..

But I'll leave it at that.. I realized how far off the topic I've gotten with this thread.. when you started it, it was intended as a thoughtful thread.... so thanks again...

But I will argue with you in another,,,,,laugh thumbs up

Yes, that actually IS promising thumbs up I like our healthcare system over here, theres a tax which funds the whole thing, the National Health Service and its really simple, it cuts out the middle man i.e. insurance companies (who make massive profits in your country i understand) and promises a high standard of care for all - in recent years though, there was building a move towards a similar set up as you have but Im happy to say that i read reports recently of a move away from that initiative and a mass exodus back to the national health service - this was fuelled no doubt by the collapse of the economic market........

I loved the comunity activist pun laugh thumbs up

But, I have heard that in your country it's not uncommon to wait days and sometimes weeks for surgery or to see a specialist? That the emergency rooms are overcrowded? IF that's the case, the funding may be different, but the end result is the same.

Yeah, that was historically the case but they have been working on it and waiting times are down to a comparative minimum now - things have really improved in that area to the extent that they are now closing some of the emergency hospitals, which I dont personally agree with but its better than it was - its all about which party is in power - the conservatives want to encourage the move to private health care while the bunch we have at the moment are more interested in maintaining the status quo of a systen which works for everybody - regardless of income parities.......

whilst I was a lifelong supporter of old labour, I cant go along too much with the new bunch - having said that though, there have been improvements and especially in the area we are speaking of here, the health service...........

Yeah, the thread was started to simply wish you all good luck though I did hope it would bring other opinions to the fore - these are scarry times we are living through and any president or indeed, prime minister (as we call them here) have to have the ability to rise above subjective opinions and historic gripes laugh

Obama seems to be lost in a bygone era .His antics my raise the optimism in the US but sheer feeling of optimsm along cant change the tangible facts . The odds are heavy . the world is not that same as it used to be in the Abraham Lincoln era .the reailites are defferent .With no arms to sell and an higly inefficent ecomomy and manufacturing because of the rise of low cost and efficient ecomomies like China and contracting ecomomies of the EU will put pressure on US exports. The war in Afgan ,Iraq and Pakistan is going to bleed US heavly as there is no end in sight .US cannot withdraw the forces infact will increase the presence there. there is a big chance of US going for a war with Iran in 5 years time .that can be a doom .US cannot get out of these places in near future .This is a vietnam in the making . Unless Obama could eat the pride and make drastic decisions its highly unlikly that the US will ever come back .anyway all the best for Obama
