druidess6308: I've been on the strongest ones, and craved as much as I am now on the lower dose ones. It's not really the nicotine I crave as much as the smoking. My worst trigger today was having the janitor show up this afternoon that I usually smoke with because she does smoke the same brand and we break together in the afternoons.

So...it's more mental and habit for me than the nicotine. That's what's making me want to gnaw trees.

"This too shall pass."

(When a certain someone gets off the road and I start IMing, my hands and mind will be too busy. That ought to help.)

Just had to do this, Dru...apologies ahead of time sad flower

Nicotine - one of the most toxic and addicting of all drugs and it is toxic by all routes of exposure including the intact skin. ....also used as a contact insecticidal. Lewis' Dictionary of Toxicology

Which of the following poisons is the most deadly?

1. Arsenic

2. Strychnine

3. Nicotine

If you guessed # 3, you are correct. The lethal dosage for a 150 pound adult is 60 mg. The lethal dosage for # 2 is 75 mg and the lethal dosage for # 1 is 200 mg. In other words, nicotine is three times as toxic as arsenic and one and one half times as toxic as strychnine.

Gizmo313: do they still sell the inhaler? it's like smoking but instead of a cigarette it's an inhaler that works like the patch. not sure if it's still out there or not but if it is it might help. a friend of mine when she quit she'd light the filter and smoke it for a minute. it would make her sick and then she couldn't look at them without her stomache turning a little bit. another friend of mine quit kind of the same way. smoked a cigarette that had been left outside in the ashtray half wet at times and so nasty for a few months. she wasn't trying to quit but she hasn't smoked since. i'm cutting down and quitting the day after my birthday this year. down to 2 a day but pointless to quit right before my birthday!

Well, happy birthday! And no, it's not pointless to quit before it, but it does make a good "quit day". And great if you're down to the two a day already. thumbs up hug

Blessings to you on both...your birthday, and quitting.

What a good point, and one I keep reminding myself of...I won't smell or taste like an ashtray any more. thumbs up

I don't have to worry about the house because I don't smoke inside...haven't since the remodel that got rid of all of the stale smoke smell in here (paint, carpet, furniture, bedding were all replaced), but my car will need a blast of Febreeze. I still taste my toothpaste from this morning a little bit...I'm not used to that. grin

I wish all you well and success!!

If there was anyone qualified for a 12-step group it would be
smokers who want to quit smoking.
And, I mean any kind of
'open' 12-step group. AA, Alanon, etc. I needed to have
people I could get out some incessant chattering during
withdrawal. I already belonged to a group so I had built-in
support. They knew I was quitting and most were smokers
themselves. They understood. I would also make this suggestion
to surround yourself with people who understand addiction.
Good luck. hug ...All of you.

I am not really enjoying my food confused thought the taste buds come back ?
I have a slight cold ,a headache that could be signs of the flue , I realise this is all connected to quiting cigs , have been told by others that you feel awful for a time and thats all the toxins leaving the body ,but I feel like a bag of poo ,
I know in the long run ,it will be worth it bouquet

Tea, juice, water, accupressure and reflexology to aid your body in eliminating the toxins. The cold/flu symptoms are probably why you're not tasting food yet...and it probably takes a few weeks for all of your taste buds to regenerate. Give it time, LL. hug

Hopefully I won't get sick...continuing my echinacea should help guard against that. And yes, accupressure and reflexology do help with the toxin elimination...that's documented in health journals, even.

rolling on the floor laughing Green tea, juice, echinacea, daily vitamin...hmmm...and organic food as often as possible. And yes, I bought veggies and trail mix with lots of seeds to munch on to help not gain weight. Fruit, too...keeping the chips and sweets down. Walking on my breaks. Seriously planning to return to the gym this weekend, too. I started to regain a tad already anyway...I don't want that. I'd rather see if it's possible to quit smoking and LOSE weight!

hug We'll do this, Sis. thumbs up
