I agree, though I'm ashamed to say I know very little Greek after 3 years! There is a tendency in Cyprus for the Brits to gather in their own little areas. They then proceed to complain that things aren't run the same way as in the UK. Er...........no..........that's because they aren't in the Uk and why move to another country if you want it to be like the UK.

Hi Maisie

This is true when i lived in the Middle East, all the Brits clumped together at their own clubs pubs.

Here in Austria, we seem to integrate more into the lifestyle and accept the culture and all what it is about.

The culture is easier to accept here as Austria is a very open country that readily accepts newcomers.

The Middle East is a completely different culture that makes it harder to integrate in.

But yes, I do think that people should at least respect their adopted country's culture, if they do not adopt the culture themselves and try to integrate into the soceity.

you would have the oppotunity to teach them two cultures at least and that would be super for them in later life

Abiding laws - sure, learning the language - often a necessity, I have done it numerous times and I will do it again if needed, the part one and two.

But when it comes to the culture it depends very much about where you come from and where you have gone...

I think the proud warriors on the plains of Serengeti would laugh their asses off seeing me trying to take part in some age old dance for what ever good cause laugh

Only in Romania, Sri Lanka and Spain have I pained myself to get into the local customs, and the reason is one simple one; I felt at home.
