I am not surprised to see this coming from Alabama. There are a lot of religious fanatics in Alabama. I lived in Selma for five years!

This is why Jesus bucked against the organized church of his day. The Bible says "...do not forsake the gathering of yourselves together..". No where are Christians commanded to do it on a schedule. The Jews were told to keep the Sabbath...not the Christians.

Many posts over the last week have made me feel that I was right in turning my back on the organized churches. I believe as I want to believe, not what some international conglomerate(Baptists) tell me to believe.

He also said, "Where two or more are gathered together, I am there also." It does not have to be a large gathering.

It is sad to see these kind of things happen to a church. I grew up in the old ways of church.

You come to worship and fellowship with other that believe.

You have revival

You witness

You always invite people of the community to attend service with you.

Now it is all about money, power, control. The main things the bible states that are the wicked things of the world.

rolltideroll: Here are some new rules that some local churches have come up with.

The first time you miss a service you recieve a card in the mail.

The second time you miss a service you recieve a phone call.

The thrid time you miss a service you recieve a visit from someone on the church staff.

The fourth time you miss a service their is a report written up and you have to explain your absence to the church leadership.

If a religion (or any religion) had any merits, it would stand up on its own. Strongarm tactics are the tactics of the weakest arguments.

On top of that, controlling the behaviour of adherents is one of the standard tactics of cults. What happens on the fifth visit, adherents are told, "Yer goin' tuh hell!!!" if they miss another?
