I might say that I was lucky in some respects with the upbringing of my children. My wife and I were probably a bit old-fashioned in that the husband should be the bread-winner while the wife stayed at home to rear the children.

My daughter is the first-born and was a lovely baby. Feed her about 10pm and she would be out until 7 - 8 in the morning. Our son came 14 months late (a bit premi) and was a cuddler. 2 hours on and 2 hours off. He did take a lot out of us but as I had been a person who did stay up a bit late, she demanded that she go to bed and I look after the midnight feeds.

But this meant I was still very alert around 1am and having to be up at 6am to go to work.

And while the wife did get up at times to deal with the 2 hours on and 2 hours off, it also meant I had a disturbed sleep most nights.

Tutorgirl, I can symathise with you and what you are going through. At least when your child does have a sleep during the day, you do have the opportunity to catch a few minutes of sleep.
