Hi everyone.... a minute's pause for a little reflection about our collective *home*: irrespective of race/religion/breed.

A yet *unfinished* website, but I'm really looking forward to the rest, when it comes...

Hi ..and Yes, I really think it is beautiful and ethereal.

I have been to one of their fairs, but actually want to get more affiliated. Might approach them with some of my artwork at their next annual *do*. It just feels so good to be there. Many positive vibes, hopefully causing a ripple effect. Thankfully, not ALL is gloom and doom.

group hug very happy

On the note of getting things to the better side of the future; we have taken down a lot of WiFi equipment and it will now be shipped south.

With it I am enclosing a number of solar power cells and it is to be used by a number of schools in Senegal.

This gives them a useful connection for internet better than the slow things they use today and lets the older students develop their IT skills as well as take part of the world community such as Youtube etc.

When we was to get antennas we realised that the ones they built themselves out of Coke and Pringle cans were a lot better than those we could by for them and their price 1% of what I could ever have found.

Rewiring this world with renewable energy, reused equipment and bright minded users, that is fun in the best of ways.

So well said.. I feel we have come to rely on so many things without giving much thought about the process, and resource use of everything, before it reaches the shops or our table! Since we've been recycling our waste I'm bewildered at the amount of packaging and how it piles up within a day or two. Food leftover has almost dwindled out to nothing compared!

And rightly so... a little creativity can greatly benefit humans much much more than dishing out our dollars, euros, or whatever! We have gotten used to the easy life; I believe somewhat, to the detriment of our survival instincts!

I would be proud using a Coke and Pringle can antenna.... thumbs up grin

By the way..anyone with a frugal/recycling/environment friendly idea is more than welcome to input here. Would be interesting to share.

Kinda along the same lines..Anyhow folks stolen from the UK...

Saturday, March 28, 8:30-9:30pm.

This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming.

For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.

This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.

This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.

In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.

We all have a vote, and every single vote counts. Together we can take control of the future of our planet, for future generations.

VOTE EARTH by simply switching off your lights for one hour, and join the world for Earth Hour.

I've just got to hear one very simple but yet interesting way of limiting unnecessary use of power from a builder here.

When they do the installation for the lights, they will have two different feeds available at each switch, one is for light that will be possible to turn on and off at any time, but the second will be controlled by daylight.

The concept is as simple as it is ingenious, those lights in rooms where you have windows and hence daylight available you will not be able to turn on lights in daytime.

Leave them on and they will turn off when it is enough daylight available.

All the house is to be installed this way, he reckons they will use an extra 80 meter of copper wire, which is not very much more. Number of daylight sensors? One!

Ja, its a sad mind-set too many people have of taking things for granted.

Packaging is horrific! I have a 60lt plastic bin in the kitchen for re-cycling... paper/cardboard/bottles/cans/specific shop packings .... and EVERY day I have to take it out to the shed for sorting! In ONE day all this s**t piles up!

I note the basics of Earth Friendly people always has the "stamp" of people who wear their old clothes, grow their hair, sit on the ground, and have a softer friendlier look to them generally? Some things never change, thank God!bouquet

Hey Conrad .. Yes, just like the 60`s!peace

Smoky - Conrad

Being born 69 I missed all of it, just got to see the pictures and hear the stories in the aftermath. It was all Disco when I grew up dunno

I sometime feel jealousy for not being around at that time, but knowing my path I choose for myself, I would most probably not have been there in the cooperatives with close friends and a green wave agenda.

In that sense I was born into the right age, because now environment is worked with on all levels while the cooperatives are fighting globalism - a completely different matter and where I do not agree with them at all.

So, a hippie in spirit but a grey clerk in real
