”Because, you know, I had little money. By the way, it was goos smelling soap. Wansn't it?
”It is not normal give to a woman so cheap gift. Did you ever think that you are not normal”.

In this case I’d guess “Normal” means that the questioned doesn’t want to tell all the details of his current life right now. It doesn’t have to be well with him, he just doesn’t want to complain.
It’s adequate to answering “Thank you” when you’ve been asked “How do you do?”. Means exactly nothing, just a way to enter a conversation without getting straight to the subject of interest.
As to what’s normal… On Russians forums (or foruma?) it’s normal to comment longer post without much sense with phrases as “Haven’t read, but don’t agree” or “Afftar, ubej sebja ap stenu”
To OP, when comes love story? We here love love stories.

Ah dear Conrad, tis all in the ACTING! You gotta act normal. Doesnt matter if you are not normal, you just gotta watch what everyone elese is doing, and then copy them!I refuse to copy others, so that is why everyone thinks I am Not Normal.
That way, I dont get asked to look after their kids, or their pets, they dont ask me to cook for them, or do anything ... wonderful life, to not be normal.
