Friends, first and foremost...

Always value our friendship, seriously, it means so much to me,
O'er the years, we've been through many things; quite the journey.

If every couple became fast friends first, and foremost,
T'would be far less break-ups; all the more in which to boast.

Blessed are we to have known friends' love and lost,
Rather than stay akin together, regardless of the cost.

Bein' single; sometimes lonely; mind over matter that,
Not worth selling your soul over, to fall into a trap.

Oftentimes, one sees couples take one another for granted,
Friendship calls for unspoken respect, home-grown planted.

We follow our dreams, stride towards out goals end,
Individuals coming together, personalities to blend.

Again 'tis written; everything happens for a reason,
Mistakes to be made; lessons learned through all seasons.

Friendship, a relationship, to behold and to be cherished,
Lasting longer than most marriages, lasting until we perish...

About this poem:
Friendship first, and foremost 'twasn't an option when the alternative was to lose out on a relationship entirely. Friendship works most famously if those in it know it for just that...

Good morning 'D' .... what a nice compilation of meaningful, thoughtful expression towards the value of friendship. Friendship seems to be more reliable than romantic relationship... anything that might jeopardize either should be eradicated, but sometimes just doesn't seem possible. However, friendship seems easier to preserve with the flexibility it offers, whereas romantic relationship has strict and rigid rules that sometimes makes 'flexing' unacceptable. Nice poem!!
