Your Story

Your Story
You already know how this story began,
because it was written about you.
You alone decide what the tale becomes,
before your narration is through.
When your personal biography first began,
you were virtuous: Pure and innocent.
(If these qualities have since departed you,
you know when and where they went.)
The challenges and mistakes you have made,
were opportunities for you to learn.
True rewards were never just handed to you,
they were worked toward and earned.
Your family and the friends you have made,
were written in to offer their help.
But many of your burdens, trials, or obstacles,
were to be conquered by yourself.
A few of the answers or solutions you needed,
were enlightenments only you could find.
The only location where they could be found,
was a place deep inside your own mind.
When you attempted to do things the easy way,
you found more effort was needed.
If you had just tried your hardest as you should,
you would have easily succeeded.
Some chapters were of lost hope or wasted time,
but you still have dreams left to pursue.
Do not write your story to please anyone else,
the only one you must impress is you.
You are still writing your life’s story day by day;
There are more lessons left to be learned.
The only guarantees are nothing is guaranteed,
and more knowledge as each page is turned.
Continue to write your drama or grand adventure.
And remember: Others will read it too.
Try to fill each remaining page with kindness,
not for a better story, but a better you.

About this poem:
I just sat down to try and write a universal poem that would apply to anyone.
