Built By Time

In a sunset,
Hunter's moon,
With gables,
Backlit,
Painted
Children's faces,
Begging candies
Or a boon,
We feel
An autumn chill,
And thank God,
For his
Small graces
With winter
Coming soon.

Short-bread cookies,
Pumpkin pie,
Oktoberfest and
Leiderhosen.
Hard apple-cider,
Dopple-bock beer,
In alcohol
We drown our fear,
The winter snows
Will soon be here,
And shiver, we dare,
In the cold
Mountain air,
Will the cold stay
Forever, or will
Spring come again?

Bringing love
And dancing,
And hot-blooded
Romancing,
Or has winter
Set forever
Like a shroud
Over our life?
In lonely
Silent snow
We ponder and
We pine,
And sit
In regret
And slowly
Sip our wine.
Wishing for
The energy of
Youth, with
The wisdom
Built by time.
